Nebraska Beats Mizzou in Big 12 Championships

Kansas City, Mo. - Nebraska defeated The University of Missouri women's tennis team (8-13, 3-8 Big 12), 4-0, Thursday at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Mo.
"We've to give Nebraska credit, they outplayed us today...We had some tight matches going there down the stretch, its one where just unfortunately they got four points before we were able to play everything out, " Tiger Head Coach Blake Starkey said after the match.
The Huskers knocked Mizzou out of the Big 12 Championships, ending their season. Nebraska moves on to play Baylor Friday morning. NU was able to beat Mizzou by first taking the doubles point, and winning the first three singles matches to finish.
Nebraska took the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches to earn the crucial first point. At No. 1, Imke Reimers and Diana Kuhl beat Chrissy Svetlic and Raquel Wagner, 8-1.
At No. 2, Nebraska's Maria Ring and Wiveca Swarting beat seniors Erika Josbena and Amanda Pratzel, 8-4, in the Mizzou duo's last match together as Tigers.
The No. 3 match between Charlotte Bellis and Katelyn McKenzie and Marianne Cicmanec and Ashley Finnegan stopped after Nebraska clinched the doubles point.
Nebraska took a 1-0 lead into singles play, where they would earn three victories to claim the match.
The first match to finish was Pratzel's No. 1 contest against Nebraska's top player, No. 47 Imke Reimers. Reimers beat Pratzel, 6-0, 6-1, to earn Nebraska's second point.
At No. 3 Swarting took down Josbena, 6-1, 6-2, to earn the Huskers' third point, and they closed out the win by taking the No. 6 match, as Finnegan defeated Bellis, 6-0, 6-4.
Svetlic was down in her match at No. 2, 6-2, 5-4, but she had won three games in a row before the match was stopped.
Wagner won her first set, 7-6 (3), against Ring, but was behind, 2-5, in the second before the match was called.
McKenzie was down, 6-3, 3-0, before her No. 5 singles match ended.
The Tigers finish the season at 8-13, but perhaps more importantly, 3-8 in the Big 12, two wins better than last season.
