Mizzou Defeats Montana, 6-1

Columbia, Mo. - .-- The University of Missouri women's tennis team improved to 4-3 on the spring with a 6-1 victory over the Montana Grizzlies Sunday in front of a good home crowd at the Green Tennis Center. The Tigers won both matches this weekend, as they defeated Drake, 5-2, Friday.
Tiger Head Coach Blake Starkey was proud of the fan turnout Sunday and he hopes the support continues throughout the season.
The fans were pleased to see senior Erika Josbena earn her first victory of the spring at No. 1 singles. Josbena defeated Liz Walker in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. She said her strategy to hit the ball deep worked to keep Walker at the baseline, instead of up at the net.
"I was very, very happy for Erika today, she played great. She's been getting closer and closer ... she played really, really well today."
The win, number 46 of her career, moves her into a four-way tie for 13h place on the Mizzou career singles wins list. Lucie Ruskova went 46-35, Joni Jordan had a career record of 46-60 and Andrea Friedman had a 46-61 record. Josbena currently sits at 46-61.
Amanda Pratzel claimed her fourth victory of the spring by defeating Mari Castello at No. 2 singles. After falling in the first set, 0-6, Pratzel won the next two sets, 6-4, 6-2, to finish the match.
Tiger junior Chrissy Svetlic also fell in the first set of her match at No. 3 singles. After losing the first set to Cheyne Ursich, 4-6, she came back to win the next two sets, 6-2, 7-5, to earn her fourth win of the spring and 14th overall.
At No. 4, sophomore Raquel Wagner easily beat Danni Paulson, 6-1, 6-1.
Freshman Katelyn McKenzie won her match at No. 6, defeating Jessica Souza, 6-3, 6-2.
AT No. 5, Kaitlin Dunham fell to Martyna Nowac, 7-5, 7-5.
In doubles action, the Tigers swept the doubles matches for the second match in a row and fourth time this season. The most impressive victory of the doubles contests came at No. 3 doubles where Svetlic and Charlotte Bellis eliminated Nowak and Souza, 8-0.
At No. 1, the duo of Raquel Wagner and Katelyn McKenzie downed Castello and Walker, 8-4. At No. 2, Josbena and Pratzel defeated Ursich and Paulson, 8-3.
