Mizzou Falls to No. 63 Nebraska, 6-1

Lincoln, Neb. - The University of Missouri women's tennis team fell to No. 63 Nebraska, 6-1, Sunday in Lincoln, Neb. The Tigers fall to 1-2 on the year and 0-1 in the Big 12. Freshman Kaitlin Dunham improved to 3-0 on the season in singles after earning Mizzou's only victory.
Tiger Coach Blake Starkey credited Nebraska on their first Big 12 win.
"I give Nebraska credit, they just outplayed us. We're going to get back and get ready for Murray State."
The match started out in Nebraska's favor as they swept the doubles matches to take the first point of the match. The MU duo of Katelyn McKenzie and Raquel Wagner fell to 1-2 on the year at No. 1 doubles with an 8-3 loss to Nebraska's Imke Reimers and Diana Kuhl. Erika Josbena and Amanda Pratzel lost to Maria Ring and Wiveca Swarting, 8-2, and Chrissy Svetlic and Kaitlin Dunham fell to Marianne Cicmanec and Ashley Finnegan, 8-4.
The match then moved on to singles play, where Dunham won her third match in a row, defeating Cicmanec, 6-3, 7-6 (3) at No. 5 singles. The Mizzou freshman is now 3-0 on the spring season, and 7-3 overall.
Mizzou lost the other five singles matches on the day. At No. 1, 30th-ranked Husker Imke Reimers downed Erika Josbena, 6-2, 6-4. Josbena gave a good effort in the contest. The Mizzou senior was up 4-1 in the second set before eventually losing the match. At No. 2, Pratzel fell to Kuhl, 6-3, 6-3, and at No. 3, Wagner fell to Swarting, 6-2, 6-1. On the No. 4 singles court, Svetlic won the first set, 6-1, but lost to Ring in a third set tie-break, 10-7, to lose the match, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7). At No. 6, McKenzie lost to NU's Finnegan, 6-4, 6-1.
Next weekend the Tigers will return to the Green Tennis Center for a couple of matches. Saturday (Feb. 17) Mizzou will host Murray State at Noon and Sunday (Feb. 18) 28th-ranked Texas A&M visits the GTC. The Sunday match gets underway at 11:00 a.m.
