ST. LOUIS - - University of Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel has been named the 2007 recipient of the Carl O. Bauer Award, presented by the Missouri Athletic Club. The award, which was established in 1978, is presented annually to the top amateur sports figure in the St. Louis area. The Carl O. Bauer Award is named after the MAC's Athletic Director who brought innovation and inspiration to the Club during his 45 years of service.
Over the years, the award has honored an impressive list of distinguished amateur athletes, coaches and administrators including Jackie Joyner-Kersee (1984) and Ed Hightower (1994). The University of Missouri is well represented among the ranks of former honorees: Kellen Winslow (1978), Phil Bradley (1980) and Brad Smith (2005).
This season, Daniel has led Mizzou to an 8-1 record, the school's best start since 1969. The Tigers quarterback is a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien Award, presented annually to the top qb in the nation.
Daniel will be honored at the Jack Buck Awards Banquet on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at the Missouri Athletic Club in downtown St. Louis. Joe Buck, the top sportscaster in America, will serve as the master of ceremonies. Other distinguished sports figures being honored that evening include the St. Louis Cardinals Jason Isringhausen, who will receive the MAC Sports Personality of the Year Award and St. Louis Blues President John Davidson, who will receive the Jack Buck Award. The banquet will be broadcast live on KMOX Radio.
The event is open to the public. The event begins with cocktails at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and the program at 8 p.m. Admission is $125, which includes dinner, parking and gratuity. Reservations can be made by calling 314-539-4470.
