||
| Bob (Omaha): What do you do right before a match to prepare yourself both physically and mentaly? good luck. | ||
| Max Askren: I do the same warm-up I do pretty much before every practice day. I run, do some calisthenics, and then drill for about 10-15 minutes. Mentally, I try and stay loose and not focus on the match. The rest will take care of itself. | ||
| Dave (Columbia): Good luck this season! Here's my question, do you think the 197 pound weight class is one of the toughest of the 10 classes this year? | ||
| Max Askren: I feel there's lots of talent in the 197 pound weight class. But, you could look at it as either being a high level competition and everyone is really close or a lower level of competition with no apparent leader of the pack. I would opt for the first, but some may feel different. | ||
| Josh (sedalia): So are you sick about questions about your brother? Do you get tired of the comparisons? | ||
| Max Askren: No. I'm very proud of my brother and his accomplishments. So, when asked about where I compare on different things, it only reminds me of the things he has done and the things I aspire to achieve. | ||
| Jake (Mexico): Hey Max! Good luck to the team this year. What is it about this team that makes you guys strong enough to win a national title? Is this year's team better than last year's? | ||
| Max Askren: Hi Jake! Diversity would be the key element in becoming national champions. Our team is solid and with the different skills and strengths of the coaching staff there's no doubt that they could lead us to a national championship. This year's team is more mature and more able to take the national title. But...we've got a long road ahead of us. | ||
| Mark , lake of the ozarks: I'm hoping to come up for a dual or two this season...which one would you recommend?! | ||
| Max Askren: I'd say Oklahoma State would be the match to come to. It's on Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. I think it's a highly anticipated dual meet where we can further our winning streak against them and finally have a victory over them at home in the Hearnes Center. Other than that, both teams are good and there's quite a bit of rivalry. | ||
| tom (paris): Good luck out in Vegas. Do you think this team is capable of winning back-to-back Cliff Keen titles? I think so! Good luck in defending your title! | ||
| Max Askren: I'd have to agree with your opinion. There are several teams out at the Cliff Keen Invitational who will put up a fight, but I think we're going to be bringing too much heat for them to handle. | ||
| Joe (columbia): Do you think people don't give the Tigers enough respect on the mat? A seventh-place ranking...really? | ||
| Max Askren: Seventh place isn't a strong ranking for the performance we put on last year and the performance we continue to put on this season. But...I'm a big believer in taking respect from those on the mat. Rankings don't weigh too heavily on my mind. | ||
| Shawn (Columbia): Coming off of last season's success, what do you think it will take for this year's team to continue their success? | ||
| Shawn (Columbia): Coming off of last season's success, what do you think it will take for this year's team to continue their success? | ||
| Max Askren: The same thing it always has. Hard work and will to fight. Usually, our recruits haven't been among the top and we've been good at producing good wrestlers by fighting to win. | ||
| Mike (Columbia): Your brother was the most successful wrestler in Missouri history? What advice has he given you to be the best you can be? | ||
| Max Askren: Our family has been very good about leading by example and not putting too much value on words. Though they may sound good, actions are perceived as from the heart. Whereas words have less significant meaning. Ben has left some great examples. | ||
| Max Askren: Thanks guys for all of the questions. Wish you all could make it out to Vegas...keep up with us through the web! Maxwell | ||
