West Lafayette, Ind. - After three days of action at the Boilermaker Invite, the No. 20 University of Missouri men's swimming and diving team (5-1, 1-0 Big 12) left the pool in second-place overall. The Tigers totaled 661 points on the weekend.
"The men gave the 12th-best team in the nation a run for their money this weekend," said Missouri Head Coach Brian Hoffer. "Our guys just couldn't get enough guys in races today to beat Purdue. They had a great weekend though and I'm very proud of their efforts."
Opening up Sunday's finals was Jake Hoffmann in the 200 back. The junior co-captain clocked a 1:49.82 to take fourth in the race.
In the 100 free consolation final, sophomore Dylan Lynn touched in a time of 46.01 for the win. The race featured five Tigers in its field of eight.
Sophomore Martin Cernansky rallied mid-race and finished strong down the stretch to earn a win in the 200 breast in a time of 2:00.81. Junior Ted Harris won the consolation final in a time of 2:06.31.
Junior Gilad Kaufman was up next for the Tigers in the 200 fly. The Israeli led for part of the race, but went on to clock a 1:49.40 and a sixth-place finish.
Racing to a top-10 finish in the 1650 free was freshman Spenser Lauver. The Omaha, Neb., native clocked a 16:01.54 to take ninth in the event.
The weekend was brought to a close by the 400 free relay. Lynn, junior Matt Dahlke, freshman Jordan Hawley and Kaufman combined for a third-place finish in a time of 3:02.91.
In platform diving competition freshman Dante Jones tallied his second top-five score in as many days with his fifth-place score of 285.55. Sophomore Ryan Meeker recorded a sixth-place score of 255.20 with senior David Boyko just behind in seventh with a score of 243.10.
The Tigers will take the rest of the academic semester off from competitive action and return to the pool on Jan. 18 when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pa., to take on Pittsburgh and Maryland.
