Mizzou Falls to South Dakota State, 78-63

BROOKINGS, S.D - The Missouri women's basketball team fell to South Dakota State, 78-63, Sunday afternoon in Brookings, S.D. Junior guard Alyssa Hollins and freshman forward Shakara Jones each posted 18 points to lead all scorers.
Missouri, which falls to 2-1 on the season, also received 13 points from sophomore forward Jessra Johnson.
Mizzou and South Dakota State kept things close from the opening tipoff, with the Tigers eventually building a 10-7 advantage early on six points from Johnson. The Jackrabbits gained control over the next 10 minutes of action on 13 points from Kristin Rotert to put the Jackrabbits on top 32-20 with 5:23 left in the first frame.
After sophomore Amanda Hanneman hit a three, Hollins nailed back-to-back treys on ensuing possessions to cut SDSU's lead to six, 34-28, with 3:39 on the clock. The Rabbits put another five points on the board in the waning minutes but Hanneman knocked in another three with nine seconds left in the frame to cut Mizzou's halftime deficit to 39-31.
The Tigers entered the second half energized and narrowed the SDSU advantage in half, 45-41, with 13:50 left in the game on four points apiece from Jones and Hollins and a layup from Johnson. Mizzou eventually got within two, 47-45, on baskets from Jones and senior center Nicole Wilson but SDSU responded with a 15-0 run over the next 4:07 for a 62-45 Jackrabbit lead with 8:28 left in the contest.
Jones made a layup and Hollins hit another three to cut the Rabbit advantage to 12, 62-50, but SDSU again responded and kept the game out of reach for a 78-63 Missouri loss.
The Jackrabbits outrebounded Mizzou 42-33, including 18-12 on the offensive end.
The Tigers next head to Boca Raton, Fla., to play in the Florida Atlantic Invitational next weekend. Mizzou will play against Samford on Saturday, Nov. 24 and Robert Morris on Sunday, Nov. 25, with both games at 1 p.m. ET (12 p.m. CT).
