Pre-Game Notes
- Mizzou was looking for its first win in Manhattan, Kan., since 1989 (21-9 win). Since then, the Wildcats had won the last 8 times…
- Kansas State won the toss today and elected to receive – marking only the 2nd time this season that Mizzou has not taken the opening kick. The other time in 2007 was at Ole Miss…
Post-Game Notes
- Mizzou has won 10 games (on the field) in the regular season for the first time in school history. The 1960 squad is officially credited with a 10-0 regular season, but one of those wins was a forfeit awarded to the Tigers after Kansas was ruled to have used an ineligible player in their win over Missouri.
- Freshman WR Jeremy Maclin broke the MU single-game all-purpose yardage record of 333 set in 1998 by Devin West against Kansas. Maclin had 360 all-purpose yards on Saturday (143 receiving yards and two touchdowns on nine catches, two rushes for eight yards, six kickoff returns for 194 yards and a touchdown, and two punt returns for 15 yards).
1st Quarter
- Junior FS William Moore intercepted a pass on the 3rd play from scrimmage, good for Moore's 6th interception of the season, which is just one shy of the MU single-season record of 7, by Roger Wehrli in 1968. Moore's 6 picks are tied for 2nd-most in MU season history, and the most since Julian Jones had 6 in 1999…
- The defensive stop marked the 10th time in 11 games in 2007 that the opponent has not scored on its opening drive. The only time was at Colorado, when the Buffaloes got a turnover at the MU 11-yardline.
- Senior C Adam Spieker made his 47th consecutive start today, and that tied him for the school record for consecutive starts by a lineman, with A.J. Ricker (2000-03). Spieker's next start will tie him with former QB Brad Smith for the school record of 48…
- Mizzou capitalized on the turnover and went 15 yards in 2 plays, on an 8-yard TD pass from QB Chase Daniel to WR Jeremy Maclin. The TD pass was the 56th of Daniel's career, tying him with former QB Brad Smith for the MU career record…
- The TD reception was the 8th of the season for Maclin, and his 14th of the season overall (8 receiving, 4 rushing, 2 punt return)…
- After K-State drove for a short FG to make it 7-3, Maclin made history when he took the ensuing kickoff, and returned it 99 yards for a TD – marking Mizzou's first kickoff return for a TD since 1982, when Ricky Doby took one 85 yards for a TD at Oklahoma State…
- Since Doby's TD in 1982, MU had gone 287 games and 976 kickoff returns without a TD…
- The 99-yarder was the longest for MU since the Doby play, which went for 99 yards total – Doby carried the final 85 on a reverse…
- On the play, Maclin broke the NCAA freshman single-season record for all-purpose yardage. He entered the game needing 78 yards to break the freshman season record of 2,026 by Terrell Willis of Rutgers in 1993… Maclin now has 2,309 for the season.
- Kansas State cut into the lead with a 66-yard TD run by James Johnson (the longest rush against MU this season), but DE Stryker Sulak blocked the ensuing extra point to leave the score 14-9, which is how the quarter ended…
2nd Quarter
- Kansas State blocked a punt and returned it for a TD to take a 15-14 lead at the 14:16 mark. The Tigers again blocked the extra point – this one by DE Tommy Chavis – to keep the score at 15-14…
- The Tigers responded with Daniel's 2nd TD pass of the day, this one from 8 yards out to TE Martin Rucker to make the score 21-15 with 10:53 left…
- The TD pass was the 57th of Daniel's career, breaking the mark of 56 set by Brad Smith. It was also the 28th of the season for Daniel, tying his own MU single-season record set in 13 games in 2006…
- K-State drove the length of the field, but the Tiger defense held in the red zone and forced another short FG, which made it 21-18 Mizzou with :38.2 seconds left, and that's how the half ended…
3rd Quarter
- Mizzou received the opening kick of the half and blazed down the field for a TD, covering 77 yards (6 plays), in only :59 seconds, and Tony Temple's 2-yard TD run at the 14:01 mark made it 28-18 Tigers. Temple ran for 29 yards on the drive and the TD was his 7th of the season (tying his personal-best mark of 7 rushing TDs in 2006), and the 17th of his career…
- After the defense forced a stop, the lethal combination of Daniel-to-Maclin struck again, when the duo hooked up for a 44-yard TD pass on a 3rd-and-17 play to give the Tigers a 35-18 lead. This drive covered 93 yards, in 8 plays and took 2:58 off the clock…
- The TD put MU's point total over 30 points for the 11th time in 11 games this year, and after Hawaii was held to 28 points in their game last night, Mizzou is now the only team in the country to score at least 30 points in every game this year…
- The defense got its 2nd turnover of the day on the ensuing K-State possession, when CB Castine Bridges caught a ball fumbled into the air on a hit by S Justin Garrett. Mizzou couldn't capitalize, as its offense went 3-and-out…
