Columbia, Mo. - University of Missouri Assistant Head Football Coach Dave Christensen has been named the National Offensive Coordinator of the Week, as announced today by the Master Football Coaches Survey.
Christensen, in his seventh season as MU's offensive coordinator, was lauded for his work in gameplanning and preparing his offensive squad for what turned out to be a dominating 41-6 win over then-#25 Nebraska last Saturday in Columbia. In the game, Christensen's troops amassed 606 yards of offense in helping Mizzou to its largest margin of victory over Nebraska since a 47-6 MU win in 1947.
Christensen was awared the "MCS Nike Game Ball" for the week. Each week during the 2007 college football season, the 17 Master Football Coaches award a Nike game ball to the respective shools of a national offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator whose game plans made the biggest impact in their teams' victory.
Under Christensen's direction, Mizzou's spread offense has become one of the most effective, and entertaining offenses in the nation. The 11th-ranked Tigers enter Saturday's game at 6th-ranked Oklahoma carrying the nation's #4-ranked offense, with 556.40 yards per game. Mizzou is also ranked 5th nationally in passing offense (357.60 ypg), 11th in scoring (41.80 ppg), 15th in passing efficiency (147.23 rating), 24th in rushing (199.00 ypg) and also leads the nation in 3rd down conversions (59%). Arguably one of the most balanced and potent offensive attacks around, Mizzou is one of only two schools to average at least 300 yards passing and 199 yards rushing per game.
More information about this award and the Master Coaches Survey can be found online at www.mcspoll.com.
The Master Coaches Survey, an advisory poll comprised of 17 former college football coaches, includes 11 College Football Hall of Fame Members and represents eight national championships and over 3,000 victories combined. Based on the MCS system, the voters review all of the relevant game tapes following each week of competition, discuss each teams' performance during a weekly conference call, then establish a ranking of the Top 25 teams. The Master Coaches Poll Top 25 can be found on the MCS website (www.mcspoll.com), including a breakdown of how the coaches voted.
As part of their selection process, the coaches not only attend games across the nation, but spend countless hours reviewing the DVDs of the previous weekend's match-ups. Through this extensive process, the expert panel of coaches also selects the top players and assistant coaches who will be awarded game balls each week. The Master Coaches Survey is proud to announce that Nike has become the official provider of the MCS Game Balls.
