Mizzou's Hannah Named Preseason Bob Cousy Award Candidate

Sept. 11, 2007

Columbia, Mo. - University of Missouri senior Stefhon Hannah was named a preseason candidate for the Bob Cousy Award, given annually to the nation's top collegiate point guard. The candidate list was released in the 2007-08 college basketball preview edition of Athlon Sports.

Texas A&M's Acie Law IV won last season's award, and Hannah is one of four Big 12 point guards recognized on this year's preseason list, joining D.J. Augustin (Texas), Curtis Jerrells (Baylor) and Russell Robinson (Kansas).

The Bob Cousy Award recognizes the top collegiate point guard in NCAA Division I, II and III and the selection committee is comprised of college basketball experts, including members of the media, along with former coaches and players. Candidates for the Cousy Award distinguish themselves on and off the court. They are evaluated on their ability to maximize their team's collective potential, their leadership, their core basketball skills - passing, dribbling and creating team offense - and overall team achievement.

Hannah is coming off an exciting junior campaign where he led the Tigers to an 18-12 overall record and an upper-division finish in Big 12 Conference play. The reigning Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Year, Hannah was named an All-Big 12 selection by the league's coaches and media while averaging team-leading totals of 15.4 points, 4.6 assists and 2.4 steals per game. A three-time Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Week, Hannah was one of the league's more versatile performers and was the lone player in Big 12 action last season to record both a point-assist and point-rebound double-double. The 6-foot-1 guard scored 12 points and tied a Missouri single-game record with 13 assists against Coppin State. The 13 dimes were the most ever by a Tiger in a regulation contest, equaling the 13 assists recorded by Melvin Booker in a triple overtime game against Illinois in 1993. The Chicago, Ill., native also enjoyed a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double at Nebraska on Feb. 24.

Although the Tigers don't officially open practice until Oct. 12, the Tigers will be hosting a free open workout for fans on Sept. 15 at 10 a.m., prior to Mizzou Football's home-opener against Western Michigan.

Per NCAA rules, college basketball coaching staffs are allowed to workout with their entire squad for a maximum of two hours per week starting on Sept. 15 and the Tigers will workout from approximately 10-11 a.m. prior to kickoff vs. the Broncos.

Admission to the workout is free to the general public and doors on the north side of Mizzou Arena (Faurot Field side) will be the most convenient way to enter the arena.

The open workout will run in conjunction with the annual Tiger Scholarship Fund Day tailgate, which is scheduled from 10:30-12:30 p.m. on the Walsworth Family Plaza. Walsworth Plaza is located on the northeast corner of Mizzou Arena.
