Members of the Mizzou Women's Golf team have spent their summers competing in several tournaments around the country.
In June, four Tiger golfers played in The Women's Western Amateur Championship at Stonecreek Country Club in Urbana, Ill. Julia Potter and Chelsea Schriewer led the way, qualifying for the Championship Flight with two-round scores of 148. Potter opened with a 69 in round one.
Abby Spieler won the second flight at the Western Amateur with a 166 score with rounds of 81 and 85, while Lindsey Burry followed an 83 with a round of 89.
July began with the Indiana Open, which was held at the Legends of Indiana in Franklin, Ind., where Michelle Morgan took runner-up honors after falling to Danah Ford in a playoff. Morgan finished regulation with an even-par score of 144 (70-74). Potter was eighth at the Indiana Open with a total of 151.
Two weeks later, Potter took the title at the Indiana State Amateur Championship in Lafayette, Ind., with a 54-hole total of 214 of two-under-par 214, which included a three-under-par 69 in the second round.
Potter also won the City Championship of South Bend, Ind. carding rounds of 74-75-71.
At the Missouri State Amateur Championship, Schriewer took runner up honors with a 219 (70-72-77) at Meadowbrook Country Club in St. Louis. Lindsey Haupt finished sixth in the tournament with a 54-hole score of 233 (77-79-77) and former Tiger and current assistant coach Mindy Bullard tied for fourth place at the Missouri State Amateur with a 230 (77-76-77) score.
The Tigers will open their 2007-08 schedule on Sept. 8 with the Mary Fossum Invitational in East Lansing, Mich. Also on the fall schedule is the Johnie Imes Invitational on Oct. 8-9. The tournament will be the first hosted by Mizzou at The Club at Old Hawthorne.
