Tigers Gain More Momentum at Tom Botts Invitational

April 14, 2007

COLUMBIA, Mo. - With the rain clear the University of Missouri track and field squads hosted the final day of the 11th Annual Tom Botts Invitational on Saturday. The Tigers added two more NCAA-regional qualifying marks to reach 14 total for the season. In addition, Mizzou took seven event titles. Purdue's Keith Hopkins and Astin Steward were named the meet's Outstanding Performers.

Tiger junior Hedvig Glomsroed won the women's triple jump with a leap of 41 feet, 1 inch (12.52m) to qualify for the NCAA Regional Championships, making the mark on both her fourth and fifth attempts. Her mark is the longest ever made by a Missouri athlete, but with a 2.4 meters-per-second tail wind (5 mph), the mark cannot be considered a new Missouri record.

Also on the women's side, senior Trisa Nickoley won the 800-meter run in 2:10.22. Sophomore Ellen Ries was second in the 1500 at 4:38.23, only trailing former Tiger Ashley Patten at 4:37.78.

Junior Krishna Lee won the shot put with a 49-8¼ (15.14m) mark, extending her NCAA-regional mark with a season's best. Shernelle Nicholls was second in the put at 49-4¼ and also finished third in the discus. Junior Jamie Wynn captured a personal best and extended her regional mark to 161-5 (49.20m) in a second-place performance in the disc.

In the men's shot put, junior Nate Englin won the event with a 57-11¾ toss (17.67m). Senior Bill Hobson captured an NCAA-regional mark with a third-place finish tossing 55-3 (16.84m).

Jason Morris was second in the discus at 166-6 (51.78m), adding to his first-place hammer throw title Friday night.

Senior Greg Bracey won the 100-meter dash with a 10.66 clocking and placed second in the 200 at 21.80. Frosh Jerron Forte won the 400-meter dash in a collegiate best 48.82.

Seniors Marcus Mayes and Jimmie Jones went 1-2 in the 800-meter run, clocking 1:51.41 and 1:51.42, respectively. Freshman Dan Hedgecock was second in the 1500 in 3:55.36 with former Tiger Neville Miller winning at 3:53.31.

Jason Miller was second in the high jump with a 6-8 (2.03m) leap and Chris Feitz was second in the triple jump at 44-6¼ (13.57m).

The Tigers will split squads next weekend, sending a majority of athletes to the Kansas Relays and a handful of middle-distance runners to the Arkansas Invitational.
