MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Missouri women's basketball team opens a tough two-game Big 12 road stretch Saturday night in frigid Manhattan, Kan. against a Kansas State team brimming with confidence.
K-State sits at 13-2 and 1-1 in the Big 12 after knocking off then 17th-ranked Texas A&M last Saturday in Bramlage Coliseum. Prior to a 20-point loss at Oklahoma to open league play, the Wildcats had rattled-off nine-consecutive wins, just like the Tigers before dropping their first league contest as well.
Mizzou (13-3, 1-1 Big 12) is looking to erase the sting of Wednesday's 79-77 overtime loss to No. 23 Texas at Mizzou Arena. To do so, senior EeTisha Riddle will need to continue her strong play that saw her post a career-high 31 points and 13 rebounds which boosted her season averages to 16.3 ppg and 7.9 rpg. She has led the Tigers in scoring eight of the last 10 games and posted at least 20 points in seven of those.
Both teams are averaging over 5.7 3-pointers per game and have a pair of players who have connected on at least 20 shots from outside this year.
Each team is receiving votes in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll, with K-State the first team and Mizzou the sixth team outside the No. 25 spot.
Missouri has won two straight over KSU, including last year's thrilling 66-65 overtime win in Manhattan that saw the Tigers erase a 22-point deficit. The Wildcats hold a 36-33 all-time lead and a 21-10 advantage at home.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CST and can be heard on the Tiger Network on KFRU 1400-AM in Columbia and KLIK 1240-AM in Jefferson City. The game will also be televised by FSN Midwest with Ben Boyle and Patti Phillips on the call.
Missouri's next road game will be on Wednesday when it travels to Texas Tech for a 7 p.m. CST game. Like K-State, Tech (10-7, 1-2) will have had a week off before its game with Mizzou. The Lady Raiders were scheduled to play at Oklahoma on Sunday but that game was postponed due to icy conditions until Jan. 22.
Missouri Beats The Ice, Sort Of: Missouri was not scheduled to depart for Manhattan until Saturday at 9 a.m. but with the impending cold temperatures and icy conditions forecast for much of the Midwest, the Tigers left Columbia shortly after Noon on Friday. They actually used the same plane that the Kansas State men's basketball team had just flown into Columbia on. The Mizzou and K-State men play at Mizzou Arena on Saturday at 3 p.m.
FSN Midwest Listings: According to the FSN Midwest web site, the Missouri at Kansas State women's game will be available in Kansas and Kansas City on local cable, DirecTV 648 and Dish 447. Viewers in Mid-Missouri and St. Louis may see Southern Illinois at Northern Iowa beginning at 7:30 p.m. Fans are asked to contact their cable or satellite provider for more specific details.
