Pregame Notes:
- MU captains were OL Mike Cook, WR Brad Ekwerekwu, LB Dedrick Harrington and S David Overstreet … Missouri won the toss and elected to receive; the Tigers will defend the South end zone … 77 degrees, cloudy, wind from the NW at 10 mph. MU improved to 5-0 for the first time since the 1981 season. After cracking the Top-25 for the first time since the 2004 season, MU is 85-56-1 all-time when ranked.
Series Notes:
- MU leads the series 36-31-3, overall, but CU has won 6-of-7, and 7-of-10 in Big 12 play versus MU. The last time Colorado dropped to 0-5, the fifth loss came at the hands of Mizzou in 1984 with 52-7 Tiger decision. MU is 6-1 all-time at home as a ranked team while playing host to CU, with the sole loss a 28-27 setback to an unranked Buffaloes team in 1978.
Gary Pinkel Notes:
- Head Coach Gary Pinkel is now 106-67-3 all-time in his 16th season as a head coach ... he is 33-30 in his sixth season at Mizzou and 21-12 in games in Columbia … since 2003, Pinkel has led the Tigers to a 24-16 mark … Pinkel is now 2-4 against Colorado. This is the seventh week that MU has been ranked in the AP poll under Pinkel, as the Tigers were ranked for four weeks in 2003, in addition to the aforementioned two week stay in the polls in 2004.
Offense Notes:
- MU has scored first in each of its five games so far in the 2006 season when QB Chase Daniel connected with TE Chase Coffman in the first quarter and has scored four out of five games on their opening possession.
- Junior TE Martin Rucker's 23-yard reception in the third quarter gave him over 1000 career reception yards making Rucker the fourth tight end in MU history to accomplish this feat … he now trails Tiger great Kellen Winslow by only 47 yards for sole possession of third place all-time … Rucker hauled in six passes for 66 yards.
- Sophomore TE Chase Coffman achieved his first ever multi-touchdown performance by catching two touchdown passes from QB Chase Daniel in the first quarter while catching a total of four passes for 31 yards … he also passed former MU player Eddie Brooks for seventh all-time on the tight end career reception yardage list with 690 yards.
- Sophomore QB Chase Daniel connected with eight different receivers while four were for six adding up his season total to thirteen touchdown passes…he also went 23-for-35 for 235 yards, but did commit two interceptions, which gives him four for the season. Entering today's game, MU had efficiently converted fifty percent of third down situations and improved that mark today by going 11-of-18 marking an impressive sixty-one percent efficiency.
Defense Notes:
- CU's opening drive field goal was the first score against the Tigers in the first quarter this season making the margin 62-3 in the 2006 season.
- Colorado QB Bernard Jackson's third quarter TD was the first rushing touchdown allowed this season by the MU defense through 270 minutes and 47 seconds of play.
- MU stopped CU five times on fourth down causing the Buffaloes to turn the ball over, especially once in the redzone early in the 2nd quarter … they also cracked down hard during third down by just allowing CU to only convert 3-of-12 chances.
- Sophomore CB Dominique Johnson was injured during the third quarter 41-yard punt return by WR Tommy Saunders and did not return after that point … he left the game with two tackles.
Special Teams Notes:
- Sophomore TB Earl Goldsmith made his first start this season returning kickoffs adding a nice spark by giving the Tiger offense solid field position.
- Sophomore WR Tommy Saunders returned punts for the first time this season setting a season high long in the third quarter with a 41-yard return … coming into today's game, the Tigers had only amassed 69 yards returning punts.
Next Week's Opponent – Texas Tech:
- Texas Tech plays at Texas A&M Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT. MU is 3-2 all-time versus the Red Raiders, and has taken three out of the last four between the two. This will be MU's first visit back to Lubbock, TX since a 52-38 loss in 2002.
Colorado Notes | Mizzou Notes
Quickly… CU is 0-5 for only the third time in its history (117 seasons), done previously in 1980 and 1984… Colorado scored in its 215th straight game today (last shutout: 7-0 at Nebraska in 1988), adding to the sixth longest active streak in the nation and now the 12th longest all-time… Today marked the first time in five games that Colorado never held the lead… CU's third quarter touchdown was its first six-pointer after intermission this season… CU is now 6-5 in Big 12 openers… The Buffs have dropped 12 in a row to ranked teams, the longest losing skein against ranked foes since dropping 23 straight between 1978 and 1986; CU now owns an all-time record of 30-29 against team ranked Nos. 16-25, including a 21-15 mark since 1989… The Buffaloes had a season-high 183 rushing yards in the game; Missouri had allowed 175 total on the season (four games) coming in… Former Buff tight end Joe Klopfenstein was on the sidelines; he is now a rookie with the St. Louis Rams and he made the drive over.
- Firsts: CB Cha'pelle Brown, ILB Marcus Burton and ILB Michael Sipili made their first career starts today; Brown made his first career interception, which was CU's third of the season. WR Cody Crawford made his first career reception.
- PK Mason Crosby (2-2 FG: 32, 36; 1-1 PAT; 7 points). He became the all-time leading scorer at Colorado with 256 points; he passed Eric Bieniemy this afternoon, as Bieniemy scored 254 between 1987 and 1990. He now has 94 PAT kicks, one shy of the current school mark, which is held by Neil Voskeritchian (95).
- S J.J. Billingsley, with three solo tackles, became just the 10th player in school history to record 200 career unassisted stops, finishing the game with 201 (unofficially; CU uses coaches video to confirm totals). He is on the third defensive back to record 200-plus, joining Michael Lewis (225, 1998-2001) and Mickey Pruitt (also 201, 1984-87). Billingsley is 15th overall in total tackles (the fourth DB) with 289.
- WR Dusty Sprague (2-85, 0 TD). The junior had a 63-yard reception to open the second half, the longest play of his career—barely. He had a 62-yard touchdown reception last year against Kansas. He had just four catches for 35 yards coming into the game, but with 85 yards today he moved up three notches into 24th place all-time in receiving yards at Colorado (866); he is now alone in 19th place in all-time receptions with 71 (he came in tied with Evan Judge).
- DE Abraham Wright. He had his sixth sack of the season, giving him 15½ for his career; he passed Kanavis McGhee (15) into 11th place all-time at Colorado.
