Pregame Notes:
- MU captains were OL Mike Cook, WR Brad Ekwerekwu, LB Dedrick Harrington and S David Overstreet … Missouri won the toss and elected to receive; the Tigers will defend the North end zone … 72 degrees, cloudy, wind from S at 9 mph. … R-Fr. Hardy Ricks made his first career start at CB.
Series Notes:
- Todays's game was the first-ever meeting between Missouri and Ohio … MU is now 3-13-1 versus teams from the state of Ohio (1-3 vs. Bowling Green, 1-10-1 vs. Ohio State).
Gary Pinkel Notes:
- Head Coach Gary Pinkel is now 106-67-3 all-time in his 16th season as a head coach ... he is 33-30 in his sixth season at Mizzou and 21-12 in games in Columbia … since 2003, Pinkel has led the Tigers to a 24-16 mark … Pinkel is now 6-0 against Ohio, having defeated them five times from 1991-96 as the head coach at Toledo … he also moved to 2-2 against Frank Solich-coached teams.
Offense Notes:
- Sophomore QB Chase Daniel completed 18-of-34 passes for 258 yards and two TDs … he also carried the ball nine times for 44 yards and a five-yard TD … Daniel has been responsible for 12 of Missouri's 17 TDs this season.
- Junior RB Tony Temple rushed for 60 yards on 15 carries … Temple became the 10th Tiger to amass at least 400 yards rushing in the first four games of a season … his 417-yard total in that span ranks eighth in Missouri history … he also caught two passes for 19 yards.
- Junior WR Will Franklin caught four passes for 99 yards a pair of TDs … he collected scoring strikes of 68 and nine yards … he now has four TDs this season and seven in his career.
- Missouri's TE combo of Chase Coffman and Martin Rucker combined to catch six balls for 59 yards … on the season they have 34 receptions for 302 yards and 2 TDs.
- Sophomore TB Earl Goldsmith provided a nice spark in his first two carries of the game … following a Daniel incompletion, Goldsmith rushed twice for 18 yards on consecutive plays … he finished with five carries for 28 yards.
- Sophomore RB Jimmy Jackson rushed for 14 yards on three carries … he scored his first touchdown the season and third of his career on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter.
- Chase Daniel's 68-yard TD pass to Will Franklin was the Tigers' longest play from scrimmage this season … it was also the longest scoring pass under Gary Pinkel and the third time this season that Daniel and Franklin have connected on plays of 40-yards or more (60-yard TD pass and a 40-yard completion – both against Murray State).
- On its second quarter scoring drive, MU rushed seven times for 42 yards, with positive yardage six times … Chase Daniel was 2-for-4 for 20 yards and a TD … his two completions came on the only third down (11 yards to Franklin) of the drive and the 9-yard TD strike to Franklin … there was also a 15-yard facemask against Ohio … the drive was 11 plays, covering 75 yards in 3:56.
- Missouri's third quarter TD came four plays after an Ohio fumble … following an incomplete pass, Tony Temple broke off runs of nine and 14 yards before Chase Daniel's five-yard TD run … the Tigers have now scored 24 points off turnovers this season (7 each against Murray State, Ole Miss and Ohio, with 3 at New Mexico).
Defense Notes:
- Senior LB Marcus Bacon's fourth-quarter interception was his second of the season and fourth in his career. Bacon added a 48-yard return on the play … he finished with a team-high nine tackles and four solos.
- Sophomore LB Brock Christopher had six tackles (four solo) and one for loss on the day … he nearly had a “pick-six” on a third quarter screen pass that slipped through his fingers for a pass break-up – one of MU's five on the day.
- Senior LB Dedrick Harrington's seven-yard QB sack midway through the third quarter was his first of the season and seventh of his career … he finished with four tackles, including three solo and 1.5 for loss.
- Junior DL Lorenzo Williams recovered his second fumble of the season and his fourth of career in the third quarter … he also blocked a PAT attempt in the second quarter.
- Missouri has held the opposition scoreless in all four first quarters this season for a 48-0 edge … Ohio finished with just 43 rushing yards on 30 carries, their second-lowest of the year (minus-6 at Rutgers) … the Bobcats managed 188 yards of total offense – that is the third lowest allowed by the Tigers this year … Mizzou has forced at least one interception in all four games and at least one fumble in three games … the defense has allowed just 37 points all season.
Special Teams Notes:
- Missouri's block of Ohio PK Matt Lasher's 38-yd attempt in the first quarter was its second this season (currently credited as a TEAM block) … Lorenzo Williams blocked a 48-yd attempt at New Mexico last week … Williams came up big in the second quarter when he blocked Lasher's extra-point attempt following the Bobcats' TD … Williams now has two blocks this season and four in his career.
- RS sophomore PK Jeff Wolfert scored seven points on a pair of PATs and a career-best 44-yard field goal … he is now 6-of-8 on FGs and has made all 17 PATs for a team-high 35 points … he has made three consecutive FGs and six of his last seven since missing from 41 yards in the season-opener against Murray State.
Next Week's Opponent – Colorado:
- Colorado lost at No. 9 Georgia, 14-13, in Athens, Ga., earlier Saturday … the Buffs are now 0-4 and dropped their 10th-consecutive against a ranked opponent (last win came in 2003 against No. 22 Missouri) … Mizzou leads the series, 36-31-3, including a 23-11-2 edge in Columbia … the home team has won the last three games (CU 21-16 in 2003; MU 19-7 in 2004; CU 41-12 in 2005) … CU has won 18 of the past 21 dating back to 1985 … Gary Pinkel is 1-4 against the Buffs … kickoff is set for 11:40 a.m. and the game will be carried live on FSN.
