SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Missouri Tiger Track and Field teams completed competition at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational on Saturday. In all, eight Tiger events will be added to the NCAA-provisional qualifying list as a result of good performances all around by the Tigers this weekend. Many personal bests were bested in the meet as Mizzou gets within three weeks of the Big 12 Indoor Championships.
On Friday, four NCAA-provisional qualifying marks were made by Missouri athletes and that number was matched on Saturday. The Meyo Invitational hosted over 30 schools from power conferences such as the Big Ten, the Big East, and the Missouri Valley.
In the famous Meyo Mile, junior Tipper O'Brien ran an excellent race to place fourth overall, coming back from as far as 11th place against a talented field to yield a personal-best 4:04.55 clocking. That time was good for an NCAA-provisional mark.
Junior Marcus Mayes also added an NCAA-provisional mark in the men's 800, placing third with a homestretch surge to clock 1:49.48. Teammate Jimmie Jones placed fourth in the race with at 1:50.50.
On the women's side, Ashley Patten and Trisa Nickoley placed fourth and seventh, respectively, in the women's 800. Patten recorded a time of 2:06.72 with Nickoley crossing the line at 2:08.60 to both earn NCAA-provisional qualifying marks.
The Tiger men completed their sweep of the throws with sophomore Nate Englin taking the title in the men's shot put. Englin threw for 57-7½ (17.56m), ten inches ahead of Tiger Bill Hobson who finished second.
Tiger sprinter Greg Bracey made the championship final of the men's 60 meter, clocking a 6.82 on the day and placing sixth.
In the women's shot put, freshman Kendra Richardson placed third, capturing a new personal best with a toss of 46-5½ (14.16m).
Next for the Tigers is a trip to Ames, Iowa, for the Iowa State Classic, held next weekend, February 10-11.
