GAINESVILLE, Fla. - - Missouri dropped its final game at the Pepsi Baseball Classic in Gainesville, Fla., to Ohio State by a score of 4-2. The Tigers finished the weekend 1-2 and fall to 5-4 on the season opener. They now prepare for their home opener against Illinois State on Wednesday.
For the second-straight day Missouri had difficulty at the plate, getting just four hits and had 10 strikeouts in the loss.
Mizzou scored first, getting a run in the top of the third inning, as senior Zane Taylor drove in senior Derek Chambers with a two-out single down the left field line. Taylor had two of MU's four hits, finishing 2-for-3 on Sunday.
Ohio State took the lead by scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jason Zoeller doubled and Josh Hula followed with a double. Both would score later in the inning to give the Buckeyes the lead. OSU would add two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Wes Schirtzinger and Jacob Howell each had RBI singles in the inning.
With two outs in the ninth, senior Bryson LeBlanc, on as a pinch hitter, reached on an error and advanced to second on a balk. He scored on a single by freshman Ryan Lollis.
Freshman Aaron Crow pitched 5.1 innings, allowing four runs- three earned- on seven hits. He struck out six and walked two, picking up his first loss as a Tiger.
