- For the second consecutive game, Missouri started a line-up of Stefhon Hannah, Jason Horton and Matt Lawrence at guard and Marshall Brown and Leo Lyons at forward. The start for Lyons was the second of his career and first at Mizzou Arena.
- The contest vs. Southern marked Mizzou's fourth game of the season vs. an opponent that participated in the 2006 NCAA Tournament. Other NCAA Tournament teams Mizzou has faced this season include: Davidson, Arkansas and Illinois. Missouri is now 3-1 vs. those teams.
- Mizzou extended its homecourt winning streak to 11 games, which is the nation's 20th longest homecourt run.
- The Tigers also won their 17th consecutive home game vs. non-conference opposition. That's the longest run of non-conference wins at home since the Tigers won 18 straight over the 2000-03 seasons.
- Missouri forced a Mizzou Arena record 32 turnovers. That's the highest number of turnovers forced for Mizzou since forcing 42 vs. Chicago State on Dec. 2, 1995, in a 117-45 triumph.
- Those 32 turnovers turned into a season high 20 steals for the Tigers. The 20 steals are tied for No. 2 all-time at Missouri. Mizzou also recorded 20 steals against Texas A&M on Jan. 29, 2000. The school record for steals is 23 set on Dec. 3, 1991, vs. Florida A&M.
- Ole Mizzou played in front of a season-high crowd of 9,091. The previous high for a home crowd was 7,470, which came on Nov. 25 vs. Stephen F. Austin.
- Missouri improved to 5-0 all-time vs. Southern and an impressive 20-0 all-time vs. members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
- As to be expected playing just one game over the past 21 days, the Tigers committed 10 turnovers over the first seven-plus minutes and consequently led just 33-25 at the halftime break. Over the final 33 minutes, however, Missouri committed just three miscues and pushed its lead to as many as 34 before claiming a 87-58 win.
- Missouri won its sixth game of the year by 20-plus points. Over the previous three seasons combined Missouri won just FOUR total games by 20 or more points.
- The Tigers also topped the 80-point plateau for the seventh time this season. Over the previous two seasons combined Missouri topped 80 points just six total times.
- Missouri forced a season-high 19 turnovers in the first half and finished the game by forcing 32 total turnovers.
- Mizzou led 18-17 at the 8:29 mark of the opening half, but followed with a 13-2 run over the next 4:41 to build a 31-19 advantage.
- Missouri entered the game averaging 82.9 points per game at home and upped that average by finishing with 87 total points, including 54 points in the second half.
- Mike Anderson won his 99th career game as a head coach. Anderson will have an opportunity to earn career victory No. 100 on Jan. 2 when the Tigers host Mississippi State at Mizzou Arena at 7 p.m.
- After missing his first two shots of the contest, sophomore guard Matt Lawrence enjoyed a stretch where he hit nine consecutive buckets, including six straight from beyond the arc. Lawrence scored 15 first-half tallies and finished the contest with 24 total points. The 24-point effort marked his fourth 20-point game of the season, which is the most by a Tiger sophomore since Linas Kleiza in 2004-05.
- Vaidotas Volkus grabbed a career high seven rebounds. Volkus' previous high was five vs. Coppin State on Nov. 27, 2006.
