IRVING, Texas -- Missouri junior Bennett Clark was named the Big 12 Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week for meets of Oct. 23-Nov. 5, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Clark competed against Southern Illinois, Iowa, Drury and Louisville to claim three first-place finishes. Leading off in the 50-yard freestyle, he swam a time of 20.45 seconds. His other golds came in 44.70 in the 100 freestyle and 44.41 as an anchor in the 400 free relay.
The St. Louis, Mo. native led the Tigers to a perfect weekend as they finished 4-0 in duals at the Mizzou Dual Challenge and won a five-team invitational by 79 points. Clark is undefeated in the 50 and 100 freestyle this season in seven races. He swam his three fastest races of the year in succession over the weekend, shaving more than a second off his previous season-best from three weeks ago against the Aggies.
This marks the first non-diving award for the Tigers since Dec. 2, 2002, when Matt Ferrarelli was named Big 12 Swimmer of the Month.
Other award winners this week included: Mike Wong (Texas) was honored as the men's Diver of the Week, while on the women's side, Julia Wilkinson (Texas A&M) won Swimmer of the Week and Mary Yarrison (Texas) Diver of the Week. The student-athletes were chosen by a vote of the league's head swimming and diving coaches.
Both Missouri teams will return to the pool in 10 days when they welcome Truman State to the Mizzou Aquatic Center for a 1 p.m. meet on Saturday, Nov. 18.
