COLUMBIA, Mo. -- - Mizzou sophomore quarterback Chase Daniel was named the Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after he threw for a career-high 356 yards and four touchdowns in the Tigers' 42-17 win over Kansas on Saturday.
Daniel became the sixth MU quarterback to throw for 350 yards in a game and the first since 2001. The 356 yards against the Jayhawks took his season total to 3,197, making him the first Tiger QB to record 3,000 passing yards in a season. He has thrown for over 250 yards in nine of MU's 12 games this year.
Against Kansas, Daniel was 26-for-38 with four touchdowns and no interceptions. It was the fourth four-TD game of the season for Daniel and took his season total to 26 touchdowns, which is also a school record.
His 3,592 yards of total offense are just 14 yards short of breaking the Mizzou's season total offense record (Brad Smith in 2005).
The Southlake, Texas native earned Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 4 after he threw a school record five touchdowns against Murray State in his first career start.
This marks the fifth time this season a Tiger has earned Big 12 honors. Joining Daniel's two awards, Marcus Bacon (9/11/06), Brian Smith (9/18/06) and David Overstreet (10/23/06) each took home a conference Defensive Player of the Week award this year.
Mizzou concluded the regular season 8-4 after the defeat of Kansas and await the bowl selections to see where it will travel for its third bowl in four years. Bowl selections will be announced on Sunday.
