Mike Anderson Quotes
11/12/06 vs. Stetson
Opening Statement:
"I'm happy for our guys. This particular game here, it was certainly an interesting (first) half. I didn't think we had the energy you have to have. You can contribute that to a lot of things, whether that is because of the wear and tear of the first two games. I thought in the second half, I thought Kalen did an excellent job of keeping the energy. We had some energy in the first half, but at the same time, the game was definitely played at Stetson's pace, no question about it. We had eleven turnovers in the first half, and a lot of those were unforced, which is a big concern of mine. It's pretty much the same thing against Army when had a 20 point lead. In the second half, I thought we came out and executed defensively, probably the best we have all year. We were everywhere. One of those guys that came in was Darryl Butterfield. That's the thing about our basketball team. One guy can come in and give us four or five strong minutes and spur the other guys on. I thought the zone kind of slowed us down. I thought we were afraid of it at first, but I thought in the second half we did a much better job of executing."
On Kalen Grimes' improved scoring:
"He's putting himself in a position to score. That's the key. He's working on improving himself, staying in shape. He understands when we're playing the zone, he's in the back of the zone, knowing what to do."
On down-low play:
"We've only played three games, so we'll see how it goes. It's a work in progress. It's a team effort. You'll see there are some people that have to continue to work. This is year one. There are a lot of people that are doing the things I want to do. Kalen has worked extremely hard and got himself in good condition. And now I think the mental part is coming. If you look at those free throws, he goes two for three. That's pretty good for him. But, again, you can see the confidence. He had another double-double."
