Mizzou/Oklahoma Post-Game Quotes
Gary Pinkel | MU Players | Bob Stoops | OU Players
Opening statement:
"First of all congratulations to Oklahoma, they played certainly good enough to win. They're a good football team. We're good enough, but you can't make the mistakes we made today. Obviously I'm pretty disappointed."
"Tony dislocated his shoulder. They said he could play but a running back with a dislocated shoulder and he has to hold on to the football can't do that so we made the decision not to play him in the second half."
On the reason for the loss:
"I don't know but I'm responsible for that. My kids worked their butt off, they were excited to play."
On Missouri's lack of momentum:
"There are all kinds of momentum plays out there and unfortunately most of them didn't go our way. We had our opportunities. It's not complex."
"You can't make mistakes against a good football team like we made today."
"It's just very difficult to make all those kinds of errors and win."
On how the Tigers will approach next week's game:
"It's not going to be about Nebraska, it's going to be about how we play."
MU Players | Gary Pinkel | Bob Stoops | OU Players
Sophomore QB Chase Daniel
On His Performance:
"I didn't play too well obviously. We made too many mistakes as an offense. We'll just go back and fix it."
On the loss:
"They're a great team, we handed it to them today and they played tough and they deserved to win. I don't question our effort whatsoever, we played our hearts out. It's hard to win when you have four turnovers, and you almost have five. I think we played a good game, but not good enough."
On Oklahoma's performance:
"They played good, we played good too. It's two great teams going after it, and they came out on top. But the good thing is we put ourselves in a position early on in the season. Going into Lincoln, the [Big 12] North is going to be a fight."
On the absence of Tony Temple:
"It's pretty difficult when you lose your leading rusher like that, and Tony is that guy. Earl came in today and played decent and everyone played good, but in the end it wasn't good enough."
Senior SS David Overstreet
On the loss:
"I hate losing, this is a tough one."
On the penalties and turnovers:
"The penalties and the turnovers killed us. We got a three and out, and then we had a personal foul on the punter, and they went down and scored. We kept on getting all kinds of things; we got holding penalties on defense, we can't have those if we expect to win games like this, especially against this team."
On pre-game nerves:
"I'm never nervous about anything. I don't care who we're playing, nobody scares me. I always say nerves are nothing. We just have to stop making mistakes that we shouldn't be making if we want to be a good team."
On late game frustration:
"We're out there playing so hard, I try to go out there and play every snap. And I'm running to the ball, I'm going as far as I can; and it's not paying off, we're still down on the scoreboard. I just can't stand losing, especially when we're playing so tough."
Junior TE Martin Rucker
On the team's turnovers:
"It's very frustrating, When you line up next the your man and he beats you, you just keep going after it and at the end of the day if you lose, you just lost to a better team, but today we just shot ourselves in the foot."
On Oklahoma:
"I think we might have been evenly matched, but I've never seen a team that we played that's better than us. I do think that we could have won the game today."Bob Stoops | OU Players | Gary Pinkel | MU Players
Opening statement:
"Really pleased, of course, just really pleases to see your guys play the way that they did. Defensive discipline, the way we tackled, the effort, was just outstanding. Across the board, we got the secondary and back covered so well. Offensively, just as pleased with how we ran the ball. I thought our line, tight ends, and fullbacks had an outstanding game being physical and running. And that sets up all those nice play-action passes. Where go get those opportunities for chunks and Paul (Thompson) did a great job there as well. Special Teams - Jason Carter made a huge play. We had a big fourth down stop. We got real fortunate and lucky with the running into the kicker and that was a big factor in the game."
On if this team is stronger than people give them credit for:
"We've been playing well, so I don't know why this should be surprising. We've been playing this way for several weeks now. And I think too, what everyone sometimes fails to look at is what different teams try to emphasize against somebody. Everybody gets enamored with statistics. We all play different non-conference schedules, we all play different people even leading up to the conference, who wants to run and who doesn't, who wants to spread and some people have very little interest in running."
On the big plays on defense:
"I thought Marcus Walker was a great player. And he just forced his hand a few times, where he probably let a few go that he would like to have back, and we were in a position to catch them. I just thought our coverage and the way we were covering them and making them hold on to the football was really good."
On Lendy Holmes' Fourth-Down Stop:
"Lendy Holmes is really coming into his own and really being comfortable back there. He's such a good athlete, and he showed it on that play. He can make plays like that. He is getting better and better."
On the long drive after the Missouri touchdown:
"They were in no huddle the whole day. They had a faster tempo and they were doing some things with their formation that they had not done and we had an adjustment, and after that series, we got it straightened away. They got some momentum there, they are a good team, and that's going to happen. So, fortunately, we made our adjustments and settled back down and made some plays."
OU Players | Bob Stoops | Gary Pinkel | MU Players
Senior LB Rufus Alexander
On Oklahoma's defense:
"Like I've been saying every week, we've been starting to do our jobs and handle each of our responsibilities."
On Chase Daniel:
"He's a great quarterback. He's very mobile and makes a lot of plays with his legs."
On Missouri turnovers:
"We knew coming in here, we are in someone else's home and that they were going to try and make big plays. All we had to do was play the course of the game and play our defense.
Senior LB Zach Latimer
On the defense's toughness:
"Well that's something we've been preaching for a long time, and everybody's finally bringing it onto the field. We just work on getting turnovers, and try to strip the ball every time we bring them down."
On stopping Mizzou's running game:
"We feel pretty good when they come out to try and run the ball, and we stuffed them. It made them think twice on running it again."
Senior QB Paul Thompson
On Missouri's turnovers:
"Any time you get turnovers that is real big especially on the road. It took the crowd out of the game, and drained some of the crowd's energy. We got the offense on the field and points on the board, so that was real big."
On having confidence within the team:
"We have a lot of confidence in this team, not only within ourselves, but with the coaches as well, and I feel real comfortable about where we are going. The team feels real comfortable with the adversity we have had to overcome, and where we are at, we feel good."
