Hoeper Tied For Opening Round Lead in New Mexico

LAS CRUCES, N.M - Mizzou sophomore Ellen Hoeper was among five golfers to shoot an even-par 72 in the opening round of the Price's Give `em Five Invitational at the New Mexico State University Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M. to put her in a tie for first place after the first of three rounds.
The Tigers, who are the defending champions of the Price's Give `em Five Invitational, are in fourth place in the team standings with an opening round 302. They are one shot behind third place (Hawaii), three shots out of second place (Boise State) and eight shots behind tournament leader San Jose State.
Hoeper's 72 is her best 18-hole score of the 2006 fall season and matches a career best, tying the 72 she recorded in the second round of the Mountain View Classic last spring. She is tied with Lehua Wise of New Mexico State and Jenelle Gomez and Cristina Corpus of San Jose State.
Another Missouri sophomore, Chelsea Schriewer, joins Hoeper in the top-20, carding a 76 on Monday, placing her in a tie for 19th place. Senior Stephanie Wavro and freshman Julia Potter each shot 77 in the first round and are among those tied for 26th place.
Junior Madde Augustsson was forced to withdraw from the tournament.
The second round of the Price's Give `em Five Invitational will take place on Tuesday with the final round scheduled for Wednesday.
