The Missouri men's and women's swimming and diving teams both recorded third-place finishes at the Big 12 Relays on Friday at the Devaney Center Natatorium.

The men's team totaled 74 points in the meet. Texas claimed first with 119 points and Texas A&M was second with 91.

The women's side of the meet had more drama with a couple of tight battles, including Mizzou and arch-rival Kansas' fight for third place - which was eventually won by the Tigers 60-51. Texas A&M easily captured first with 115 points, 28 more than Texas. Nebraska and Iowa State tied for fifth with 41.

"We had to fight hard to hang in there," MU head coach Brian Hoffer said. "We came out a little sluggish."

While the men didn't claim any golds, they did record second-place finishes in six races, including the 400 and 800 free, two of the five primary relays in college meets. The women claimed runner-up honors in the 300 breaststroke, 100 and 1500 free relays for their highest finishes.

Both MU squads will face Texas A&M in a dual meet on Saturday at 9 a.m. in Lincoln.

"A&M was the best team on the women's side today and we will have to compete hard tomorrow." Hoffer said.

After Saturday, the next meet for Mizzou comes on Friday, Oct. 27, when the women host Kansas at the Mizzou Aquatic Center at 6 p.m.
