Mizzou Madness Tips-Off 2006-07 Basketball Season, Friday (Oct.) 13th

Sept. 21, 2006

Columbia, Mo. - University of Missouri fans anxious to get a sneak peak at their 2006-07 Men's and Women's basketball squads can do so on Friday, Oct. 13, when the Tigers host Mizzou Madness inside Mizzou Arena at 9 p.m.

The Tiger's season-opening (Midnight Madness-style) event comes on the opening day of basketball practice across the country and will feature a new twist, three-point shootouts and dunk contests for selected fans in attendance. Fans will also have the opportunity to team up with and compete against their favorite Tigers in a competitive shoot-out competition and get a taste of Head Coach Mike Anderson's run-and-execute system as they run drills similar to what the Tigers run in practice on a daily-basis.

Mizzou Madness will follow the annual Rockbridge-Hickman High School football game at Memorial Stadium / Faurot Field and will allow fans the opportunity to walk over to Mizzou Arena to cap a fun evening of local sports in Columbia.

Admission (and parking) at Mizzou Madness is free to the general public, but the Department of Athletics is teaming up with the Central Missouri Food Bank and asks fans to donate one canned (food) item per person upon entrance. Collection bins will be available at the doors.

In addition to Mizzou Madness, Men's Basketball will host its annual Black and Gold Scrimmage on Friday, Oct. 27, the night before the Tigers tangle with the Oklahoma Sooners at Memorial Stadium / Faurot Field. The Black and Gold Scrimmage will be a dress rehearsal for Mizzou one week before the team opens exhibition play on Nov. 3 against Missouri-Rolla. Game time for the Black and Gold Scrimmage is set for 7 p.m. Admission for the Black and Gold Scrimmage is $5, but a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Columbia and Coaches vs. Cancer.

Fans can also support Tiger Women's Basketball by attending the Eighth Annual Brewer Breakfast hosted by Mizzou Recreation Services and Facilities on Oct. 21. Held in Brewer Fieldhouse inside the Student Recreation Center, the free pancake breakfast will run from 8-9:30 a.m. prior to Mizzou's Homecoming contest with Kansas State at Memorial Stadium / Faurot Field. The team will also hold a scrimmage and have posters, schedule cards and Sixth Stripe Booster Club information available.

Season tickets for Mizzou Basketball are now on sale. Fans should call 1-800-CAT-PAWS for more information.
