COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri freshman midfielder Kristin Andrighetto (Pleasant Hill, Calif. / Carondelet) was named the Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday. Andrighetto earned the honor after notching Mizzou's game-winning goal against Wisconsin over the weekend.
With the Tigers up 1-0, Andrighetto received a pass from Meghan Pfeiffer, dribbled into the box, and sent a left-footed shot past Wisconsin's goalie for a 2-0 Mizzou lead in the 48th minute. The goal proved to be the game-winner as the Badger's scored later in the second half for a 2-1 final.
Tied with two other Tigers as the fourth-leading scorers on the team, Andrighetto has three goals for six points eight games into her freshman campaign. She has started six games and is second on the team in shots and shots on goal.
Andrighetto's goal against Wisconsin was her third of the season and her second-consecutive game-winner. The freshman also tallied Mizzou's game-winning goal in a 3-2 win over Loyola-Chicago on Sept. 10 and scored her first collegiate goal as the Tigers beat Iowa 2-0 in the season opener.
Andrighetto is the second Tiger this season to earn a Big 12 weekly honor. Sophomore Ashley Hamblin was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 29.
Missouri, ranked 14th, 17th and 22nd nationally in three different polls, hosts Nebraska on Friday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. in both team's Big 12 openers. The Tigers then play their final non-conference contest of the regular season on Sunday, Sept. 24 in a game against Illinois State a 1 p.m. Both games will be played at Walton Stadium.
