Sept. 18, 2006
Missouri's Adam Crossett and Kate Greer have been named the Varsity M/Lathrop & Gage Student-Athletes of the Week for Sept. 18-24, 2006.
Crossett has punted 11 times for a 36.1-yard average over the Tigers' first three games, while placing five inside the 20-yard line, including a pair in Saturday's 27-17 win at New Mexico. The redshirt junior from Liberty, Mo., has put nearly a third of his kicks into the end zone for a touchback while handling kickoff duties. A former walk-on who was awarded a scholarship following the 2004 season, Crossett is a business and marketing double-major with a 3.71 grade point average and was named First Team Academic All-Big 12 last year.
Greer helped lead the MU women's cross country squad to a second-place finish at the Missouri Cross Country Challenge two weeks ago at the A.L. Gustin Golf Course. The junior covered the 5k course in 18:47.46 and finished fourth. Greer is a SAAC rep for the cross country team and earned All-Big 12 honors in the 10,000 meters in outdoor track last spring. Greer is from Marshalltown, Iowa, and carries a 3.66 GPA in journalism. She is also an Academic All-Big 12 honoree.
The MU football team returns to action this Saturday when it hosts Ohio at Faurot Field. Kickoff between the Tigers and Bobcats is set for 1 p.m. CT. The Mizzou cross country team will run in its second meet of the season on Saturday when it travels to Minneapolis, Minn. for the Roy Griak Invitational.
