Columbia, Mo.- Former 125 pound Missouri wrestler Austin DeVoe (Columbus, Kan.) was named an assistant coach at the University of Northern Colorado Sept. 8, as announced by UNC Head Coach Jack Maughan.
DeVoe will be counted on to assist the Bears' transition to the newly formed Western Wrestling Conference (WWC). The Northern Colorado wrestling program has completed the reclassification process to Division I and is eligible for the NCAA Championships beginning this season.
A 2006 graduate with a degree in parks, recreation and tourism, DeVoe qualified for the NCAA Championships his senior season and closed his career with a 74-47 overall record, while ranking 16th in the nation. Throughout his time at Missouri, DeVoe earned four letters, was named to the Academic All-Big 12 team and received the 2003 Marshall Esteppe Most Outstanding Freshman Award.
As a sophomore, DeVoe was one of five Tigers to compete at the University Nationals, May 8, 2004, in Evanston, Ill. DeVoe finished first at the event, pinning Obe Blanc of Lock Haven in 42 seconds in the gold medal match.
