Incoming Tiger Competes at US Youth Soccer Championships

July 28, 2006

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Incoming Tiger Kristin Andrighetto competed at the US Youth Soccer National Championships this week in Des Moines, Iowa, with her club team, the Mustang Blast. Andrighetto and the Mustang Blast were one of four teams in the under-17 bracket to qualify for the national championships representing US Youth Soccer's four regions.

Facing off against the nation's best competition, Andrighetto scored the Blast's only goal in a 1-1 tie against the Dallas Texans 89 Red (Texas) squad to begin round-robin play on July 26. The Blast followed the tie with consecutive 3-2 losses to the Spirit United Gaels (Pa.) and the Eclipse Select (Ill.) on July 27 and 28, respectively, as the team failed to qualify for Sunday's championship game.

The Mustang Blast earned a bid to the national championships as the US Youth Soccer Region IV (West) champions. Andrighetto scored the game-winner in the Blast's 1-0 victory over the San Diego Surf in the Region IV title game.

Andrighetto won a 2004 US Youth Soccer national championship in 2004 as a member of the under-15 Mustang Blast team.

An ADIDAS All-Far West Team selection in 2005, Andrighetto led Carondelet High School (Calif.) to a 16-1-1 record her senior season after scoring 17 goals and six assists. Over her four year career, she totaled 86 goals and 33 assists as the squad earned the 2005 Golden State Soccer League Championship. Andrighetto earned Bay Valley Athletic League first and second team honors in 2004 and 2003, respectively. As a member of Olympic Development Program squads, Andrighetto was on the 2005 Super Y League National Select and 2003 Regional teams. She was selected as a top-100 recruit by Soccer Buzz.
