COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri head swimming and diving coach Brian Hoffer has announced that senior Amy Charley and junior Jill Bastien will serve as co-captains of the Mizzou women's team in 2006-07, while juniors Brandon Lee and Travis Floyd will take on the co-captain role for the Tiger men.
Charley will act as a team captain for the second consecutive year, holding the honor with the departed Liz Schoborg in '05-06. The upcoming season will be the first with captain's duties for Bastien, Lee and Floyd.
"We're a young team with, for the most part, a young group of captains, but we have all the confidence that they will take us where we need to go," Hoffer said. "These four individuals exemplify what we look for in a member of our program - strong work ethic, great attitude and a focus on academics."
Charley, an '06 second-team Academic All-Big 12 honoree, currently stands fourth in school history in the 200 back (2:02.97) and eighth in the 200 IM (2:05.27). The Afton, Va., native owns four career top-15 finishes at the Big 12 Championships and was named Mizzou's '04 Women's Most Improved Swimmer.
A St. Louis native, Bastien is the reigning Women's Most Improved Swimmer and earned first-team Academic All-Big 12 recognition in '06. She stands third all-time at Mizzou in the 200 breast (2:18.93), fourth in the 100 breast (1:03.97) and seventh in the 200 IM (2:05.23). She swam to a seventh-place finish in the 200 breast (2:18.93) and an eighth-place showing in the 100 breast (1:03.97) in her home pool at the '06 Big 12 Championships.
Lee, also an '06 second-team Academic All-Big 12 honoree, currently ranks fourth in school history in both the 500 free (4:32.23) and the 400 IM (3:59.84). He is also eighth in school history in the 1000 free (9:36.07) and 10th in the 1650 free (16:03.27). The Olathe, Kan., native notched a fourth-place finish in the 400 IM (4:00.98) at the '06 Big 12 Championships, as well as a seventh-place finish in the 500 free (4:33.62).
Floyd, a native of Midland, Texas, garnered first-team Academic All-Big 12 honors in '06. He currently stands sixth in school history in the 200 back (1:49.37) and seventh in the 100 back (50.23). Despite battling illness for much of the '05-06 campaign, he managed to place ninth in both the 100 (51.12) and 200 back (1:51.69) at the conference championship meet.
