Columbia, Mo. – Get ready to get down at the party of the summer – KC's Boogie Blast! – as dance era legends KC & The Sunshine Band, Gloria Gaynor, Tavares and Sister Sledge featuring Kathy Sledge turn the Amphitheater at Mizzou into Studio 54 on Monday, August 28, 2006 at 7:30 p.m.!
KC and The Sunshine Band first rolled onto the music scene 30 years ago, and are still as widely popular today as they were in the age of disco. Harry Wayne Casey, KC for short, developed a unique fusion of R&B and funk, with a hint of Latin percussion groove, resulting in an impressive string of hits including the #1 smash hit "Get Down Tonight" and it's follow-up hit "That's The Way (I Like It)". KC and The Sunshine Band kept the hits coming in 1975 with "Shake Your Booty" and "I'm Your Boogie Man" and in 1976 with "Keep It Coming Love". Fans who bought their records began attending their concerts and were blown away by the high-voltage stage energy of KC and The Sunshine Band. KC is a natural performer and The New York Times compared his stage presence to Elvis Presley's. KC & The Sunshine Band continued their impact on the post-disco scene with "Please Don't Go" in 1979. KC is the consummate entertainer and supreme leader of the disco dance era, and the creativity and spirit he brings to KC's Boogie Blast is outta sight!
Gloria Gaynor is known around the world as Queen of the Disco era. In 1973 she made history when "Never Can Say Goodbye" bowed at #1 on the Billboard charts and became the first dance song to reach #1 in dance music. Gloria has topped the dance charts over the years, and as recently as 2002, she had 4 #1 singles on the Billboard charts. She is certainly a survivor, and is best known for the uplifting chart-topper "I Will Survive", an anthem of generations world-wide. VH-1 honored Gloria with the #1 Dance Record of All Time for "I Will Survive".
Tavares may be best known for up-tempo hits as the million-selling single "Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel", "It Only Takes a Minute (Girl)", and "Whodunit". A favorite of dj's everywhere, Tavares also wrote "She's Gone" which Hall & Oates performed and scored a #7 pop hit in 1976. Hailing from New Bedford, MA, the clean-cut brothers with their crisp vocals and dance steps were favorites on late night TV and on American Bandstand. Their popularity skyrocketed when they sang "More Than a Woman" which the Bee Gees wrote specifically for Tavares, and it was issued as a single from the multi-platinum Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.
When there's a dance party, there's always room for more dance hits, and Sister Sledge featuring Kathy Sledge will perform the timeless feel-good anthem "We Are Family", which reached #1 on the R&B charts and #2 on the pop charts in the US. The group also reached #1 on the R&B charts with "He's The Greatest Dancer".
As host, KC will open the show and The Sunshine Band is the house band for all artists on the show for this one-of-a-kind dance revue. Fans should get ready to get down to a night of non-stop solid dance hits. Oh yeah, and don't forget your platform shoes and gold chains. Be part of the summer's Ultimate Dance Party... KC's Boogie Blast. KC's Boogie Blast will appear in 30 cities nationwide.
