May 5, 2006

Abby Spieler of California, Mo. has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Mizzou Women's Golf Team, MU Head Coach Stephanie Priesmeyer announced on Friday. Spieler is a four-time All-State selection and a two-time State Champion Golfer.

Spieler claimed the Missouri State High School State Championship in her senior and sophomore seasons and finished fifth in the state tournament as a junior and 13th as a freshman.

"Abby will be another great addition to our young squad," Priesmeyer said. "She is one of the very best out of a strong Missouri high school senior class. We are bringing in many talented, athletic players next fall with great potential and promise to become excellent golfers for Mizzou."

In addition to her success on the golf course, Spieler was also a four-time All-District and All-Conference selection in basketball, including being named the Conference MVP as a senior. She was also the National Honors Society President and ranks second in her senior class.

"Abby has been a starting point guard for her high school basketball team for four years and has demonstrated a lot of leadership skills in that role as well," Preismeyer said. "Abby is also a strong student, as she has a 3.9 GPA and is currently ranked second in her high school class."

Spieler is the third high school star from the state of Missouri signing National Letters of Intent to join Mizzou. Lindsey Haupt (St. Louis) and Madison Marcolla (Chillicothe) have also signed with the Tigers.
