McCormick Earns Academic All-District Honors

May 25, 2006

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri sophomore wrestler and 2006 All-American Tyler McCormick, (Leawood, Kan.) was named as one of 11 members on the ESPN The Magazine University Division Men's At-Large Academic All-District 7 team. The first-team nod places McCormick in the running for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America™ honors.

Majoring in business, McCormick owns a 3.95 grade-point average and was the youngest District 7 first-team honoree and one of only seven sophomores among the eight districts (83 individuals) to be recognized on the first team in voting by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

One of only two Tiger wrestlers in the 62-year history of the Missouri wrestling program to receive All-District honors, McCormick joins the ranks alongside former 157-pound grappler and 2004 All-American Kenny Burleson.

McCormick finished seventh at 133 pounds in this year's NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships March 16-18 in Oklahoma City, Okla. It marked McCormick first appearance at the National tournament and he became Missouri's 25th wrestling All-American after defeating Matt Keller of UTC, 6-4. The Tiger grappler closed his sophomore campaign with a 31-9 record.
