Nathan Culp Selected Co-Big 12 Pitcher of the Week

April 4, 2006

Mizzou junior Nathan Culp has been named the Big 12 Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week along with Kyle McCulloch of Texas, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Culp recorded his first career complete game shutout, holding Kansas to just three hits in a 3-0 win last Friday night.

Culp faced the minimum through 7 2/3 innings, striking out five and walking just one. The only two baserunners to reach through the first 7/23 innings (one on a single in the third and one on a hit batter in the fourth) were both erased on double plays.

The win was Culp's sixth of the season, which is second most in the Big 12 Conference and his 1.98 ERA is fourth best in the Big 12.

Culp is the third Tiger to earn a Big 12 honor this season as junior Max Scherzer was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 28 and sophomore Jacob Priday was named the Conference Player of the Week on March 14.

The Tigers open a five-game homestand against Missouri State at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Taylor Stadium. This weekend Nebraska visits Columbia for a three-game series which will get underway at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night. For tickets call 1-800-CAT-PAWS (884-PAWS in Columbia) or visit mutigers.com.
