Columbia, Mo. - Playing in a light mist for most of the early afternoon game, the Missouri softball team (22-23, 6-9) held off Texas Tech (19-33, 4-12), 7-5, after scoring six runs on nine hits between the third and sixth innings on University Field. Game two has been rescheduled for 9:30 a.m. (CST) Sunday, April 30.
Holding the Red Raiders scoreless in the first frame, Missouri took the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the inning after redshirt sophomore Micaela Minner (Sanger, Texas) scored, unearned, on a double through the left side by sophomore pitcher Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.). In her four at bats, Minner was hit by pitch three times and drew a walk in the fourth to register a perfect 1.000 on-base percentage but .000 batting average. Minner scored two of Missouri's runs in the two hour and 24 minute game, the second coming on a sixth inning fielder's choice.
Texas Tech came back in the third, scoring three runs on three hits and two Tiger errors, but Missouri managed back-to-back two run innings and a single run in the sixth to win the game, 7-5.
Junior catcher Kathy Masterson (St. Louis, Mo.) was 2-for-2 at the plate for Missouri, scoring a run in the fourth inning on a fielder's choice.
While Bruck twirled her 11th complete game and improved to 20-17 on the season, the Lady Raiders went through three members of their pitching staff, with Sarah Losleben credited with the loss. Losleben entered in the fourth inning and gave up three runs on four hits in 2.1 innings of action.
The Missouri softball team will play its final home game of the season tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. (CST). Live stats will be available on mutigers.com as will video through the All-Access service. KCOU, 88.1 FM will also be broadcasting the game live.
