College Station, Texas - Playing their 10th ranked opponent of the season, the Missouri softball team suffered a five inning, 8-0 shutout to No. 15 Texas A&M on Senior Day at the Aggie Softball Complex in College Station, Texas. Now 20-22 on the season, Missouri is 4-8 in Big 12 play, while the Aggies improve to 32-13 and 11-4.
Unable to capitalize on any of their four Tiger hits throughout the game, the Aggies put together a potent fifth inning, seven run showing to force the abbreviated game. After scoring a single run, a leadoff homer by A&M first baseman Megan Gibson in the fourth inning, the Aggies managed seven runs on seven hits in the bottom of the fifth frame to end the two-game series. Sophomore Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) hurled four and one-third innings for Missouri, before being relieved by freshman Megan Dennis (Liberty, Mo.) in the bottom of the fifth. Bruck reentered the game after Dennis gave up two hits and three runs to the Aggies and was credited with her 16th loss of the season (18-16).
Among Texas A&M's seven fifth inning hits were three doubles, four singles and a two RBI home run by second baseman Jami Lobpries.
Of Missouri's four hits, Bruck ripped a first inning double to left field, but was left on base on back-to-back outs, a pop up and groundout. Redshirt sophomore Micaela Minner (Sanger, Texas) extended her hitting streak to three games with a fourth inning leadoff single, while third baseman Amanda Jo White (Tallmadge, Ohio) also recorded a hit in the fourth. Senior Janessa Roening (Port Angeles, Wash.) was the only other Tiger credited with a hit in the afternoon game.
The Tigers will head north to Ames, Iowa, for a doubleheader against Iowa State Wednesday, April 26, beginning at 2 p.m. (CST).
