Down to the final eight games of the regular season, the Missouri softball team will travel to College Station, Texas for a two-game weekend series against No. 15 Texas A&M, currently standing second in the Big 12 Conference. Live stats and audio will be available for both games at mutigers.com and Saturday's game will be televised in College Station on Cox Sports with Will Johnson and Cheri Kempf calling the play-by-play and color.
After dropping their past three contests against Oklahoma State, Southern Illinois and Kansas the Tigers are looking for a win over No. 15 Texas A&M to help once again jump above the .500 mark. Missouri trails the Aggies 26-16 in the all-time series but is 4-1 in their past five meetings, including two wins last season at home. Since taking over the reins in 2003, Missouri Head Coach Ty Singleton owns a 4-2 record in games against the Aggies but is 0-1 when playing at the Aggie Softball Complex.
The last time Missouri and Texas A&M played in College Station, A&M won game one, 2-0, but game two was rained out. Later that season, Missouri won a 1-0 battle in extra innings at the Big 12 Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla., eventually advancing to their first league title game sine 1997.
Home run hitter Micaela Minner, a redshirt sophomore from Sanger, Texas, will use Missouri's upcoming games as an opportunity to set a new Tiger career home run record. After crushing her 25th career yard ball last Wednesday against Kansas in Lawrence, Minner is one knock shy of setting a new mark. Currently, Minner is tied with former Tiger great Mary Babb. Babb set the mark in four years, (1994-1997) while Minner has taken only two. Entering Saturday's game against Texas A&M, Minner owns a team-high nine home runs on the season, once again adding her name to the Missouri season home run record book. Last year, Minner set a new mark for home runs in a season with 17.
Looking Ahead: The Tigers will play their final mid-week game of the season Wednesday, April 26, in a doubleheader against Iowa State beginning at 2 p.m. (CST) in Ames, Iowa. That same week, Missouri returns to University Field for its final home series of the season, two games against Texas Tech.
