Q&A with Tiger freshman Stephanie Johns

How difficult has it been for you to come in as a freshman and immediately compete and win at the collegiate level?

The competition in college is a lot better, but being able to practice with the girls on the team has made the transition easier.

What are some of the main differences between the high school level and the collegiate level?

The girls are more experienced, athletic, and they are smarter players. College tennis is more intense and competitive than at the high school level.

Do you enjoy playing singles or doubles more? Why?

I like both of them. They are very different, but each is challenging in its own way. In doubles, you have to learn to work with your partner, but it is a lot of fun because you have someone who can talk to you and keep you positive and relaxed. Singles is difficult because it is just you and your opponent out there. You have to think your way through the match, but it is also a great challenge and really exciting.

How would you evaluate your performance and growth so far this season?

I think that I have become a stronger player from playing with a higher level of competition, and I am a smarter and more positive competitor.

What are your goals for the rest of the season individually?

My goal is to always be improving and help the team to the best of my abilities.

What do you want to accomplish as a team in the rest of the season?

I would like the team to finish the season as strong as possible and just keep competing

What are your individual goals for the rest of your career?

I would like to keep getting better and keep pushing myself to improve

What do you hope to accomplish as a team during your time here?

Of course, the ultimate goal would be to go to the NCAA Championships! I would really like the team to continue to improve and pull off some awesome upsets!
