Women's Tennis Prepares For Three Matches

Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri women's tennis team will travel to Ames, Iowa to play Iowa State on Friday. The Tigers will then return to Columbia to host Memphis and Saint Louis on Sunday.

Missouri enters the weekend at 7-9 overall and 0-8 in the Big 12. Friday's match against Iowa State (3-9, 0-7 Big 12) marks the Tigers' first match against an unranked conference opponent. The match is scheduled to start at noon.

On Sunday, the Tigers will finish their home season with two non-conference matches. At 10 a.m. Missouri will host the Memphis Lady Tigers at the Green Tennis Center in the first ever meeting between the two schools. After the Memphis match, Missouri will face the Saint Louis Billikens. The Saint Louis match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. and both matches are open to the public.

Missouri Closes Home Schedule

Sunday's matches against Memphis and SLU mark the end of the 2006 home season for the Tigers. After their first nine home matches, the Tigers are 4-5.

Pratzel Nears A Tiger Record

Missouri junior Amanda Pratzel is 12-4 in singles play this season, giving her a .750 winning percentage. If the season ended today, she would rank fourth in season winning percentage in Missouri women's tennis history. Tiger Marina Zelenovic tops the list with a 16-3 record in the 2000-01 season, giving her a .842 winning percentage.

Svetlic Won Three Matches Last Weekend Tiger sophomore Chrissy Svetlic earned three victories at No. 6 singles last weekend. Friday, she defeated Wichita State's Jackie Richey 6-1, 6-1. Saturday, she earned her second Big 12 victory, defeating Kansas' Stephanie Smith in three sets 0-6, 6-4, 6-3. And Sunday, she improved her singles record to 6-5 by beating Kansas State's Tereza Prochazkova 6-1, 6-0.

Tiger Opponents

Iowa State

The Cyclones enter Friday's match at 3-9 overall and 0-7 in the Big 12. Last weekend they lost two conference matches, to then-No. 59 Oklahoma State, 7-0, and Oklahoma, 7-0. The Cyclones have lost their last six matches, and have not won since defeating Wyoming on March 13. Iowa State is led by junior Jill Palen at No. 1 singles and Columbia native Kara Hickey at No. 2 singles.

Memphis

The Memphis Lady Tigers enter the weekend at 3-13 overall after a loss to Middle Tennessee State last Sunday. Saturday (April 15) Memphis will face Saint Louis at the Green Tennis Center in Columbia before finishing their regular season Sunday against Missouri. The Lady Tigers are led by sophomore Brooke Cowie at No. 1 singles. Cowie leads the team with five victories on the season.

Saint Louis

The Saint Louis Billikens enter the weekend with a 12-7 overall record. In their last match, the Billikens swept SIU Edwardsville 7-0 in St. Louis. Saturday (April 15) they will face Memphis in Columbia, and Sunday they will finish their regular season with a match against Missouri.

The Tigers will travel to the state of Texas next weekend to finish the regular season with two Big 12 matches. Missouri will face No. 17 Texas on Sat. April 22 at 2 p.m. and No. 38 Texas A&M on Sun. April 23 at 1 p.m.
