COLUMBIA, Mo. - After securing an NCAA bid on Saturday, senior Evan Watters closed out his 2006 NCAA Zone D diving meet with a runner-up finish on the platform. His score of 581.60 put him behind only Eric Sehn of Texas A&M, who won the event to capture the NCAA bid on the tower.
"He put in a great effort for the third day in a row," Mizzou diving coach James Sweeney said. "Our goal for him all season was a trip to nationals, and he realized that goal. It's going to be a great way to end the greatest diving career in Mizzou history."
Though Watters would have secured an automatic bid with his runner-up finish on the 1-meter board, Sehn's win on the platform affected the placements to such an extent that he actually qualified for NCAA Nationals on the 3-meter board.
Watters and Sweeney will be in Athens, Ga., from March 23-25 as Watters will wrap up his collegiate career by representing Mizzou in the NCAA National Championships.
