Honolulu, Hi. - University of Missouri football players Brad Smith and Marcus King both had one more appearance in their collegiate careers, and both made the best of it playing in the 60th annual Hula Bowl.
Playing in the game on Jan. 21st, Smith and King represented Mizzou and the Big 12 Conference, and played on the West roster. The West team eventually fell by a score of 10-7, but both Smith and King made their presence felt.
Smith, MU's record-setting quarterback, started the game for the West squad, and led his team to a touchdown on the game's opening possession. Smith completed passes for 5 yards and 12 yards on the drive, and capped it with a trademark run that went for 16 yards and a TD to put the West up, 7-0.
Smith, who was chosen as the MVP for the West squad, would end the game with 58 yards passing (4-of-12) in addition to his rushing TD. He was held to negative 4 yards rushing, due to being sacked 4 times on the day.
Fellow Tiger Marcus King came off the bench as a defensive back, and made a big play when he intercepted a pass from the East squad and returned it 12 yards in the 4th quarter to set the West up in East territory.
Smith and King became the 44th and 45th Tigers to suit up for the Hula Bowl. The last came in 2004, when OL A.J. Ricker and TB Zack Abron played in the game.
