AMES, Iowa - The Missouri women's swimming and diving team traveled to snowy Ames, Iowa, on Friday evening and came away with a 169-126 victory, pushing their record to 2-2-1 overall and 1-2 in the Big 12. The win is the Tigers' seventh in a row over the Cyclones.
"Tonight was a great Big 12 meet, and our women showed some good energy," Mizzou head coach Brian Hoffer said. "Iowa State competed very well, especially in the diving and breaststroke areas. We came out and swam well across the board and were able to earn the win."
Freshman Coralie Baumann had a big meet for the Tigers, setting lifetime bests in the 200 fly (2:05.17) and 500 free (5:07.60) en route to finishing third in both events. Sophomore Sarah Menefee also had a productive evening, picking up a win in the 200 back (2:04.96) for the second time in as many meets.
"Sarah and Coralie are two women who don't get much recognition sometimes, but they really came up big for us tonight," Hoffer said. "I'm encouraged to see that they're both coming around as the season progresses. It's great that Sarah was able to get a win for us."
Hoffer's squad was also the beneficiary of wins by freshman Jill Granger in the 1000 free (10:15.37), freshman Lauren Cox in the 200 free (1:52.21), freshman Lori Halvorson in the 100 back (57.77), senior co-captain Liz Schoborg in the 100 (57.30) and 200 fly (2:04.15), junior Shannon Hogan in the 50 (23.80) and 100 free (52.07) and freshman Carly Sullivan in the 500 free (5:00.31).
Sophomore Jill Bastien earned runner-up finishes in the 100 and 200 breast, turning in times of 1:05.44 and 2:22.66, respectively.
The Mizzou women will be in action again tomorrow, when they engage Iowa and Illinois in a triangular in Iowa City, Iowa. The men's team will also take to the water, but will only swim Iowa in a dual.
