The Missouri Tiger football team continued its preparations for the 2005 season opener with a single practice this morning at Faurot Field. The full-pad practice was held in sunny but pleasant conditions with temperatures ranging in the low 80s.
Here were just a few of the highlights from today's 11-on-11 scrimmaging...
- LB Marcus Bacon had a QB sack...
- TB Tony Temple had a nice run for 15 yards around left end...
- QB Brandon Coleman connected with WR Chris Crosby for 35 yards...
- QB Brad Smith hit WR Sean Coffey on a go route that totalled around 40 yards. Smith and Coffey did a nice job of recognizing a blown coverage in the secondary that allowed them to make the play...
- QB Chase Patton hit WR Lucas Null for 22 yards, and Patton later kept on a run for around 15 more yards...
- LB Dedrick Harrington made a big hit in the backfield to break up a screen pass...
- Later, in red-zone scrimmage situations...
- TB Jimmy Jackson had a tough run up the middle for around 10 yards, and then followed by taking a shovel pass from QB Chase Daniel and burrowing for another 10 yards down inside the 5-yardline...
- S Brandon Massey broke up a pass near the goal line...
- DL Chad Marshall made a big stop in the backfield in a goal line situation...
- LB Steve Redmond had a QB sack...
- QB Brandon Coleman connected with WR Blake May for 12 yards as May made a nice sliding catch inside the 10 yardline...
- TB Connell Davis got outside containment and raced 10 yards for a TD around right end...
- DE Brian Smith and DT Jamar Smith combined to make a big tackle for loss in a goal line situation, as Brian blew the play up with early penetration, while Jamar came in to clean up and end the play...
- TB Tony Temple had a 3-yard TD run that featured a nice cutback to free him to the outside...
- LB Nick Patton intercepted a ball near the goal line to end practice...
Saturday's scrimmage, set for 1 p.m., is open to season ticket holders only. Season ticket holders must enter at the southwest corner gate at field level, and be prepared to have their name checked against season ticket records to gain admittance.
News and Notes
- The squad was originally scheduled to have an afternoon practice Wednesday, but was given the afternoon off by Head Coach Gary Pinkel. The team used the free time to go to the movies as a group...
- Tim Millis, the coordinator of officials for the Big 12 Conference, was in town today to get the lay of the land for MU's operations, as it pertains to the brand-new instant replay rules in effect for 2005. Millis toured the MU press box and visited with MU game officials to get the plan in place for how this system will work. The current home video booth will be used this year for the replay system, with the home video moving to another area on the 6th floor of the press tower. In 2006, a new stand-alone booth will be constructed on the 6th floor on the southern-most observation deck, and this will permanently house the replay officials...
- All three of the old scoreboards atop the south stands have been taken down, with only the steel framing remaining. Construction workers said today that the next step is to add more steel framing to the current structure so that it will hold the larger new boards. After that, the crew will begin constructing the new boards next week, with the end of next week as the anticipated finish date...
- A scout from the Indianoplis Colts was in town today to observe practice...
- On Tuesday afternoon, QB Brad Smith took part in a photo shoot for the Kansas City Star, and he got to pose with a tricked out 1964 Impala complete with hydraulics. The gentlemen that brought the car in from the KC area had the car bouncing with Brad standing in front of it. He also got inside of the car for a few shots with the car bouncing. Much fun was had by all who were there to observe the shoot...
