The Missouri Tigers underwent their first day of two-a-days today in Columbia, in preparation for the 2005 season opener against Arkansas State (Sept. 3 in Kansas City, Mo.). The Tigers practiced in full pads Saturday morning at Faurot Field, under unseasonably cool weather conditions and overcast skies that produced a spittle of rain here and there. The break in weather was a much-welcomed development for a camp that has been very hot to date.
Yet another spirited practice was held Saturday morning, with many numerous big plays being made in all facets of the game. Here were just a few of the highlights from the morning's 11-on-11 scrimmaging...
- LB Marcus Bacon made a nice pass break up over the middle...
- TB Connell Davis made a smooth-looking 15-yard run weaving through traffic and around the edge...
- TB Marcus Woods had a run of around 20 yards through the middle after a shifty cutback move broke him through the line...
- DT Earl Stephens had a big stop behind the line to snuff out a play, one of several plays that Stephens was in on during the day...
- TB Marcus Woods took a shovel pass from QB Brad Smith and rambled through traffice for over 15 yards...
- TB Tony Temple had a run of over 30 yards and then followed that up a couple of plays later with a 20-yard run that saw him make a nice cutback move and offer several jukes to get free...
- DB Chad Washington had a nice diving pass break up...
- LB Derrick Ming grabbed a deflected pass for an interception and raced down the sideline before the whistles blew the play dead. This was good to see, as Ming was involved in a big collision early in the practice in which he was shaken up a bit...
- QB Brad Smith hit WR Sean Coffey for 40 yards on a go route and Coffey nearly went the distance before being dragged down inside the 5-yardline...
- WR Will Franklin took a shovel pass from QB Brad Smith and weaved his way for a 35-yard TD on a nice-looking play...
- QB Chase Daniel hit WR Lucas Null for a nice 10-yard out that went for a 1st down on a 3rd-down situation...
- DE Brian Smith and DB Calvin Washington each broke up passes toward the end of the scrimmaging...
News and Notes
- DE Xzavie Jackson sat out practice this morning after bruising his foot yesterday in practice. He will likely sit out Saturday afternoon's practice but should be ready to go after that...
- WR Andrew Hoskins suffered a separated shoulder early in practice and it is not known the extent of the time he'll miss at this point...
- OL Matt Russell's injured left knee has been diagnosed as a sprain, and similar to TB Earl Goldsmith, the Tiger training staff will work to rehab the injury in hopes that it won't require surgery or much missed time during camp...
- The third annual Fan Fest day is set for Faurot Field Sunday, with gates opening at 4 p.m. All the Tiger coaches and players will be on hand to visit with fans on the field, and it's a great time to get personal pictures and autographs from your favorite Tigers...
