Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri - Department of Intercollegiate Athletics held a press conference today to announce the November 11th presentation of the Cher Farewell "Never Can Say Goodbye" Tour with special guest the Village People at the new Arena. Roger Crumpton, General Manager of the Arena and the Hearnes Center made the announcement today. "Without the addition of the new Arena we would not have had the opportunity to host a concert of this caliber" said Crumpton. "We are very excited to bring this show to Columbia" he said.
This first concert, the Cher Farewell Tour, will be the first of many major concerts which will be welcomed to the new Arena beginning fall 2004 at the Mizzou Sports Park on the campus of the University of Missouri. "From day one of this project, we've billed this Arena as a facility that would positively impact the Columbia and Mid-Missouri community by drawing more diverse and appealing events to the area, and today's announcement is right in line with that," said Director of Athletics Mike Alden. "This is the first of what we expect to be a great number of top-line events to come our way," he said.
The Arena will be a fun destination for basketball fans and concert goers alike - a place everyone can enjoy, as the arena will accommodate up to 15,000 concert goers at large events. With no bad seats in the house, the highest seat in the Arena is the equivalent to the C level section in the Hearnes Center. More fans will be closer to the action and entertainment than ever before.
"With the opening of this new state of the art arena, Columbia will have the unique opportunity to draw bigger entertainers. We have plans to present many feature artists this year alone," stated Tim Hickman, Associate Director of Athletics for Operations. "A new facility such as this offers so much more to fans and entertainers," he said.
Concert goers and performers alike enjoy the benefits of a newly constructed facility; the excitement and freshness, not to mention the amenities. The Arena will feature premium seating for concerts including suites, club and loge level seating. Wide concourses open to the arena floor will be a plus for concert goers as well, meaning fans won't have to miss a minute of the action. The new arena will host entertainers in style backstage as well, with better equipped dressing rooms and more spacious and up to date accommodations for visiting performers adding to its appeal.
