24 Tigers Moving To NCAA's Track Regionals

Missouri Track & Field moves into the second phase of the post-season with the NCAA Mideast Regional this weekend in Bloomington, Ind. The Tigers will send 24 squad members, competing in 31 individual events vying for entry into the NCAA Championships. The top five place winners in the individual events will automatically earn a spot in mid-June's national championship meet in Sacramento. The University of Indiana, along with Oregon, Oklahoma, and Manhattan College are among the four regional-site hosts. The meet begins Friday and will conclude on Saturday.

Youth Gone Wild ... Tiger Male Throwers
Sure, a lot of storylines garner Missouri's appearance at the Mideast regional, but one that can't go without mention is the overwhelming presence of the Tiger male throwers in the regional and their nation-leading youth depth. Here's some tidbits about the group and their regional prominence:
* Missouri qualified eight throwers in 11 events for the regionals - Mizzou has the most in the Mideast region in both categories (2nd place, Kent State - 5 throwers, Auburn - 7 marks) - Tied for the most throwers in the nation to qualify for a regional (tied with UCLA) - Tied for the most regional marks among throwers in the nation (with UCLA, Cal, and Georgia) * Four of Missouri's regional throwers are freshmen, the most in the Mideast region - Only Texas A&M qualified more in the nation with five * The Tiger freshmen throwers earned six regional marks in the different events, leads the nation * Six Tiger underclassmen (frosh and sophomores) qualified for the regionals, most in the nation - with nine regional-qualified performances, most in the nation (2nd place, Colorado State with 7) * In total, 484 regional marks were achieved by Division I schools in the shot put, discus, hammer throw, and javelin combined. * Missouri is also the only school in the nation to qualify four shot putters to the regional (Woolsey, Hobson, Englin, Dailey)
