Missouri Announces 2005 Recruiting Class

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Five state champions and the nephew of a Tiger basketball legend are among the 11 members of the Missouri men's swimming and diving class that was announced by head coach Brian Hoffer on Wednesday. The 2005 recruiting class is made up of swimmers from six states, including three each from Iowa and Illinois.
"The 2005 recruiting class is outstanding," Hoffer said. "They are providing our program a balanced blend of strokes and events. All of these young men understand that they're the future and that they'll be a huge part of Mizzou moving up in the national standings."

Brad Hubbard, Mid-Free, Louisville, Ken. Two-time All-America honoree in the 200-free ... Ken. state champion in the 200 free ... USS state champion and Junior National qualifier ... captain of Lakeside club and Manual High School teams ... swam for coach Mike DeBoor on the Lakeside club team.
Hoffer on Hubbard: "Brad is a racer who hates to lose and has great closing speed. Throughout high school he's been the model student-athlete, excelling in the classroom as well as the pool."
Ted Harris, Breast, Greenville, Ill. Four-time All-American ... Ill. state champion in the 100 breast, in addition to earning a sectional title in the same event ... US Open qualifier ... one of three members of the 2005 recruiting class from Ill. ... swam for coach Bob Rettle on the Edwardsville YMCA club team.
Hoffer on Harris: "Ted is someone that we identified early to help replace Matt North. We feel his work ethic and the team atmosphere will allow him to contribute right away."
Jake Hoffman, Free/Back/IM, Sugarland, Texas Earned All-America honors six times ... Junior National qualifier ... Academic All-America honoree and National Honor Society participant ... recognized as one of the All-Greater Houston Swimming Top Athletes of the Year ... member of the First Colony club team under coach Tim Hill.
Hoffer on Hoffman: "Jake is one of the best swimmers out of Texas this year. He has a great combination of academics and athletics. His leadership qualities and excellent club training will allow him to make an easy transition to college."
Byron Carlisle, Back/Free, Frisco, Texas All-America selection ... Texas state champion in the 100 back ... swam for coach Mook Rhodenbach on the Dallas Mustangs club team.
Hoffer on Carlisle: "Byron has improved a great deal in the past year. The fact that he is the Texas state champ in the 100 back shows he can win big races under pressure."

Hoffer on Dahlke: "Matt has great natural size and strength. In high school he attained a high level of success, even though he never swam year round."
Andrew Mondul, Breast, St. Charles, Ill. Earned all-state honors twice ... sectional qualifier ... one of three members of the 1005 recruiting class from Ill. ... coached by Dustin McDaniels on the St. Charles Swim Team ... from same hometown as former Mizzou star Matt North.
Hoffer on Mondul: "I'm looking for Andrew to come in and immediately add depth to our breaststroke squad."
Andy Ottum, Free/Fly, Eau Clair, Wis. Two-time all-state and honorable mention All-America performer ... Academic All-American ... high school team captain ... swam for coach Paula Cauket on the Eau Claire YMCA team.
Hoffer on Ottum: "Andy is one of the up and coming freestylers in Wisconsin. We expect him to improve his first year because of his outstanding work ethic and commitment to the sport."
Eric Smith, Fly/Free, O'Fallon, Mo. Two-time all-state honoree ... National and Junior National qualifier ... first-team St. Louis All-Metro selection ... lone member of the 2005 recruiting class from Mo. ... swam under coach Dave McCrary for the Rec-Plex Sharks.
Hoffer on Smith: "Eric is one of the top two or three guys out of Missouri this year. We're glad that he decided to stay close to home, and we're looking forward to working with him over the course of the next four years."
