Columbia, Mo. -
The Big 12 Conference announces its Football 10th Anniversary Team, as selected by a combined media panel and on-line fan poll. In order to be eligible for consideration, candidates must have been an All-Big 12 First Team selection at least once in their careers.
Former Mizzou All-American DE Justin Smith was MU's sole representative on the anniversary team, as he was a selection to the defensive line team. Smith lettered at MU from 1998-2000, and was an All-American pick in 2000 after he recorded a school-record 11 sacks. He left MU as the school's career sacks leader (22.5), a record which was broken earlier this season by current Tiger Brian Smith.
Anniversary teams will be chosen for each conference sport during the 2005-06 season in celebration of the Big 12's 10th anniversary.
Over, 2,300 fans participated in on-line voting through the league's web site. Fan polls will also be conducted for the men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball and softball anniversary teams.
Photos of all honorees can be downloaded from the conference web site at: www.big12sports.com.
