The Black team evened the Fall World Series at one game a piece with an 11-1 win over Gold in game two on Saturday at Taylor Stadium. Junior Nathan Culp started for Black and allowed just one run on two hits and struck out seven in six innings of work to take the victory.
After the Gold team scored a run in the first inning, the Black team responded with three in the top of the second on it's way to 11 unanswered runs including a five-run sixth inning.
Junior Hunter Mense and senior J.C. Field led the Black team with two hits each. Mense drove in a run and scored twice and Field had three RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Kurt Calvert also drove in a pair of runs on the night.
Culp and relievers Stephan Holst and Travis Wendte held the Black team to just two hits in the game and had 10 total strikeouts.
Game three of the Fall World Series will take place at 4 p.m. on Sunday at Taylor Stadium. Game four is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday and game five, if necessary will be played at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
