Adam Crossett Earns Big 12 Special Teams Weekly Award

Oct. 17, 2005

Columbia, Mo. -

University of Missouri sophomore kicker Adam Crossett (Liberty, Mo.) has been named the SBC Big 12 Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, for his performance in Saturday's 27-24 overtime win against Iowa State.  The award was announced today by league officials.

Crossett played the hero for the second-consecutive season in an overtime win against Iowa State, as he drilled a 26-yarder in Saturday's extra period to give MU a 27-24 win.  Crossett beat ISU in Ames to close the 2004 season by making a 25-yarder in overtime for a 17-14 MU win that prevented the Cyclones from winning the Big 12 North Division outright.

One of the nation's few triple-threat kickers - he handles all of MU's place-kicking, punting and kickoff duties, Crossett had one of his best overall games.  He punted three times Saturday and averaged a career-best 47.0 yards per punt, including a long of 57 yards and one punt that was downed inside ISU's 20-yardline.

Crossett came up big on kickoffs, as well, as he forced 4 touchbacks on the day in 5 kickoffs.  The Cyclones managed only 17 yards on its one kickoff return, far below the 25.64 average the Cyclones brought into the game - a figure which had ranked them 17th nationally entering the contest.

Crossett enters Saturday's game against Nebraska 9-of-12 on the season in field goals and is 21-of-23 on extra points.

Crossett is the first Missouri player to win the Big 12's weekly special teams award since punt returner Marcus James won the award in 2003 for his effort on returning punts against Iowa State.
